Yngwvie is a snob.

If ya thought classical music was part of the package and studied it until you couldn't play anything else, you'd get Yngwvie.

He's talented, but he's so dry and with NO SOUL. NONE!

It's like a mixed drink with no booze in it..

How dare you, sir!

It just don't show in his guitar work.

Yngwie was my idol and the dude that made me want to play guitar because I already knew everything that theory had to offer (thanks to playing piano for 10 years prior to picking up a guitar), and his style just made sense to me. After seeing him live a few times, I noticed that he's a hell of a showman, but it's just that. A big show of him tearin' through modes and scales, but the way that he does it sometimes is amazing. Nothing that I don't do everyday though and I'm just a dude that loves to play. You guys can trash him all you want because I just laugh and I'm on the level.

I guess different things appeal to different people.

I'd rather see someone like BB King because you feel his pain.

He can transmit his feeling(s) to you, whether you want it or not.

Yngwvie feels sterile, like he knows all the scales but he feels very little about it when he plays.

That's the best tip I could ever give a musician:

MAKE THEM FEEL YOU WHILE YOU PERFORM AND YOU GOT THEM BY THE SHORT HAIRS.

On the other hand, play perfectly but without emotion and people will detect this..

It's like a sandwich without Miracle Whip. lol Not a sandwich at all... no sir, I don't like it!

That's what makes life interesting.

I have a load of admiration for Yngwie because I cannot play like him. So as a technician of the instrument, he gets my absolute respect.

As a guy just sitting back and listening to music though, nothing he does reaches me.

I've heard rumors my whole life about yngwie being a jerk, snob, smarty-pants, you name it.. yet, I've never seen proof. One day I decided to google it just to see how bad the guy is.. guess what I found.. nada.
It's just silly rumors being passed around. He's hated because it's trendy to hate him.

The other trendy thing is to claim he has no soul in his playing - seriously? Of ALL the shredders, you think Satriani or Vai plays with more feeling? Dragonfarce maybe? hah! Go listen to some classic Yngwie, perhaps the solo to "Fire" or Overture 1812, or black star, especially live versions - more feeling in those songs than I've ever heard from the likes of other popular wankers. Check out Hiroshima Mon Amour, or Kree Nakoorie. I have mucho respect for what Vai and Satraini do, as it IS very unique. I also admire Beck, Page, EVH, and a hundred others.

I don't know if it's jealousy, or just being on the hate bandwagon, but most people I see who hate yngwie don't even understand why they hate him. Be honest with yourself. I really don't care that much and don't even know why I wasted so much time typing this. Especially considering the context that his name was brought up had little to do with anything regarding this discussion :?

<------ Big Yngwie Malmsteen fan here.

This story was circulating a couple years ago about Malmsteen getting mad when a woman pours water on him during a flight.

"Unleash the FOCKIN fury" was the most popular phrase amongst shredders like me.

Play the MP3 file because it is HILARIOUS:

I haven't heard anything from Malmsteen that really grabbed my ear holes, but I'll admit that I haven't really sought him out, either, but that's because the stuff that I've heard weren't anything that would make me seek him out. I'll admit that he's technically fab, but too fast for my lil pea-brain to keep up with.

Perhaps I'll look a lil deeper, & check out your suggestions, Kramer, when I have more time, & more nuggets to blow.

I'm not one for going with the flow when I give a personal opinion, though.

my favorite vid is when he asks the crowd if they wanna see a rock show and someone cracks kruger in the head with a rock. my hatred for this band stems from the fact that all their songs sound very similar. that and i just dont like the dudes voice...or the music. they seem to have found a formula that works for them and theyve stuck with it, no musical exploration or anything of the sort. and i mean if u want money then yes by all means stick to the proven formula. i did however enjoy the song swallow when it came out. but then after that everything started to sound the same. and come on now "hottie with a body" if kruger and his nose werent famous hed never get laid...hope he eats more rocks.

Kramerguy wrote:Craig, you got it right, but wrong still at the same time-

The beatles weren't mediocre on any level, very few of their songs sound even similar to each other. That's where Nickelback, Creed, PoM, and countless other bands today fail in such an epic format - they tend to write within such a vacuum that nothing they do even stands apart from anything they've ever done.

Now, what you said about writing simple music with GREAT hooks? Precisely what made the beatles so famous. It's what we all strive for, at least, the great hooks part. Many bands like Rush, Kansas, Yes, Porcupine Tree, DMB, etc.. taught us you can still write great hooks and not choose to be simple also.. (although it is harder to captivate the masses)...

So with Nickelback, Creed, etc.. I hear one or two great hooks, but the rest? Meh.. medium to good hooks.... just like everyone else

:D

thank you kramer, couldnt have said it better myself
