hah,
At least yngwie hatred is based on jealousy. Say what you will- the guy has mad chops. And apparently pork chops too.

In all seriousness, though, use whatever guitarist you idolize, insert their name where I wrote yngwie's, and try again. /shrug

LOL, I remember a couple of years ago, bunch of guys at work were telling me how amazing the guitarist for creed was, as if Yngwie himself drove down and gave him the crown or something..

I pulled up some videos, and what did I see?

Some dude wanking away at what he thought was a zillion miles perhour, making 3000 flubs and mistakes along the way, probably excusing his poor wanking in the name of "grunge", and NOTHING he soloed sounded even remotely original or personal. I heard some Page, some Blackmoore, and even some Rhoads in his playing, but it came off more like a 3-year beginner trying to imitate any of them rather than a versatile player.

Of course, that's just my opinion :)

Flame away LULZ.

Wow, that's an interesting perspective Kramer.

I certainly wouldn't lump Tremonti in with Malmsteen.

It's interesting what people hear when they listen to music. I listen to the solos Tremonti wrote on songs like "Brand New Start" or "Blackbird" and I hear a lot of emotion and energy. That's what I dig about Tremonti though. I don't hear a guy trying to impress or emulate a shredder like Yngwie. I just hear a guy putting a lot more of his soul into his work than other players do.

Oh well - to each his own! :)

I don't think my Yngwie dislike is based on jealousy at all. If I could play like him, I wouldn't play like him.

I don't dislike Pearl Jam cuz I'm jealous that they're famous, either.

I dislike Yngwie cuz he goes too fast for my slow lil ol' brain to follow, & I find him rather boring. more often than not. I dislike Pearl Jam cuz thier singer sounds like he either has a mouthful of poop, or he's too heroined up to be understandable. It has nothing whatsoever to do with "limelight envy." Kudos to them for resonating with someone, but they sure don't make it with me.

I saw Malmsteen a few years ago with Satch on G3. He was good but no real emotional aspect to his playing; Satriani blew him away.

Phil, please check out the latest Pearl Jam "Just Breathe". I think you will like it.

Thanks jimmy. Yes, I liked that one.

This one reminded me of the Crash Test Dummies, with his oh so manly voice! LOL

I haven't thought of them in a looooooong time! I love this song!

"Someday I'll have a disappearing hairline
Someday I'll wear pajamas in the daytime
Oh afternoons will measured out measured with coffeespoons
And TS Elliot"

Back in the 90's, it seemed as if the entire country was flipping out over GARTH BROOKS. To me, he wasn't doing anything all that ground breaking. He wore boots, jeans, cowboy shirts and cowboy hats just like anybody else, his lyrics weren't anything special, his music sounded like normal, everyday country music... I just couldn't figure it out what all the fuss was about.

Even people that didn't like country music seemed to love him. Most women I knew thought he was incredibly hot!?? GARTH BROOKS t-shirts were everyplace! I was never, ever able to figure out what the big deal was about him.

That's kinda how I feel about NICKELBACK. :|

Pretty tough to know what to think of a thread that equates Nickel Back with The Beatles. My mind has been boggled into submission

I kind of like Creeds songs from the MY OWN PRISON album.

As far as NICKLEBACK is concerned, we ( wife and I ) shared a CD for a while. I liked the style and sound for a time. But as I listened more intently to the lyrical content I found them stuck somewhere between cry baby losers to just dumb jackasses.
I detest negative lyrical content.
I turn them off as soon as I hear then get started these days.

NICKLEBAG is what we call them..

Yngwvie is a snob.

If ya thought classical music was part of the package and studied it until you couldn't play anything else, you'd get Yngwvie.

He's talented, but he's so dry and with NO SOUL. NONE!

It's like a mixed drink with no booze in it..

Not my cup of tea. Most of their songs sound very similar, almost too similar. That being said, can they ever write a song that isn't a hit? More power to them. As long as the public is listening and buying, I just can't playa hate...nuff said.

If you got to write a song for a Spiderman movie, you could do no worse.
