In Kramer's defense, there have been a lot of ppl who tried to take the corn out of country music. Jim Stafford & Charlie Rose come to mind.

Unfortunately, the average country audience actually seemed to prefer the corn over thier attempts to make country more accessible to mainstream audiences.

The stereotypical grass-chewin' heavily accented colorful characters make it more often than not over the better song-writers & awesome musicians. The sartorial preferences seem to mean more to the average listener than the content of thier repertoire, & the songs that have those good ol' boy stereotyped messages seem to grab the attention better than the more poetic.

Country has been enduring the very same problems that pop, r & b, rap & other genres suffer - substance is all to often ignored over stereotypical junk like the right clothes, the right personal image, the cookie-cutter approaches to song-writing, etc.

Back in the 70's, I recall a cpl tv shows that were trying to change all that, but they failed miserably in the face of the Hee Haw style of competition, with its celebration of the uneducated, poorly dressed commoner that the show was promoting. Country has always had a problem with ppl who can speak well, dress well, & act like they have an education & manners, in ways similar to the rap genre. If you do those "thangs," you're likely to come off as a "college boy," which is abhorent to many of those audience members. I'll never understand the strong hatred for the educated in this country, but there it is.

As a result, many ppl look at country like it's more cartoonish than anything else. Many ppl look at rap the same way, btw.

This is not to say that the entire genre is awful or anything of the kind, Klugmo, but it does explain the urge so many ppl have to dislike it a bit, I think.

Boy that certainly was a waste of a lot of SMOKE. It is Music. It is deserving of respect. It is a stand alone genre. It is a multi Billion dollar industry. It is full of talented musicians and writers ( "I SWEAR" ) song of the year. It has been around in many forms even before Elvis started swingin his leg. You guys just need to get over it. I don't like beets but I except them as a vegatable. All your corn and grass chewin references. You sons of bitches should just except it as a style you don't care for. You all are musicly predjudice.

What the hell? Someone can't say they don't like a genre of music? Why not, just because it's your preferred genre? That's crap. If someone said "I hate punk rock" or "I hate classical music" I wouldn't be upset, that's their right. I hear people say "I hate rap" all the time, so what. Before you get your panties in a wad ask yourself, have I ever done the same thing? I bet you have.

OK Danger let me respond. I had to go watch my sailing video to cool down. I don't know of nor have I seen any style of music that has been discussed here that has attracted more negative comments than Country. I'm not sure why but I do know that in the last 20 posts here you will see. corn, grass chewin, heavily accented colorful characters, uneducated, poorly dressed commoner, cartoonish, time machine for me to kick his ass, portray themselves as imbeciles, rootin tootin shootin, ya-hooo-eee, hate the game, southern idiots. Find me 20 posts in a row that attract that venom about another genre. This a music site. Slacker was the only one that came to defence of the music.

No one said life was fair.

It should be no secret that rock is the preferred genre here, and that most rock musicians do not like country music. I myself had more respect for it when it wasn't trying to be rock's illegitimate step-child.

I'll ask again, have you ever said that you hated rap? Or any other genre? Don't lie.

But at least it isn't personal Klugmo!

It's about the music, not you, personally.

The personal stuff, they save for me!

And it's not just Country.

Alot of people here don't like cookie-monster vocals (screamo) and I have blasted it, for YEARS, here and there. And it pisses off the guys here who do that genre regularly too.

At least you can understand the words in Country music!
