Chicago has banned smoking in indoor public areas now for about 2 years. I would say that it made a big impact in bar/live music business. I was just speaking to Ed, the proprietor of The Mutiny Lounge, and he said that he lost a good percentage of customers.
In a different perspective, performing in a smoke free venue is so much better. My endurance and energy seems to last longer.
