I'm lucky the wifee decided to quit too. Makes it alot easier!

Pack a day here... have quit plenty of times, made it stick a year once.

I despise cigarettes, and salute your dedication and reasons.

I won't wish you luck, because luck has nothing to do with it. I wish you steel and granite to fortify your will.

I wish you the patience of Job to make it the week or so for the worst of the cravings to pass.

Kudos to all of you for every step you take towards better days, and more wholesome breaths on those days.

Yeah, First I cut out, smokin'. Then later, I cut out drinkin'. I cut out runnin' with loose wimmin'. Now'... I sit here with my sissors, cuttin' out paper dolls.

No seriously, I quit smoking in April 1992. I had smoked for thirty years. I was smoking two packs a day. I did use the three step "patch" process. And, I also walked around the block several trips a day. I now, sing better with ease, I have stopped having seasonal bouts with Bronchitis. Yeah, food does taste better. I must say,...don't know, if the patch process had anything to do with it, or not. But, once I completed the quitting process, I have NEVER, not even once, craved a cigarette. Even when in the company of several smokers.

Friends! what is the situation regarding smoking in public areas in your city or town?

Chicago has banned smoking in indoor public areas now for about 2 years. I would say that it made a big impact in bar/live music business. I was just speaking to Ed, the proprietor of The Mutiny Lounge, and he said that he lost a good percentage of customers.

In a different perspective, performing in a smoke free venue is so much better. My endurance and energy seems to last longer.

What they are doing here and I've often wondered why they hadn't in the first place is create outside drinking/eating areas. Without doubt trade has suffered from what I see. A local gig joint near me used to have a completely full car park. It's only half that most nights now no matter who comes to play.

jsantos - mine is the very last holdout in my area where you can still smoke in bars. Only my county has held off this long, but I fear it won't last.

Bar biz has been down, even here, though, sadly. The economy hits bars hard, & this area has seen more than its fair share of bad times.

What I've noticed here in Vegas and in California is that bars are just choosing to ignore the law. I don't blame them either. Their attitude toward it is, "let the police come and stop it." The extra people they keep around for a month would pay for any fine imposed. The police could care less about enforcing it, they have more serious concerns. Our Govt. personnel within the city has been cut. I'm not even sure there's anyone around to enforce it anyway.

So far, I personally haven't heard of any bar being fined. Our whole city seems to just say, "screw that law".. Typical Vegas. Most restaurants comply, but Bar and Grills could care less.

I wish the bars around here had the balls to do that, Shredd.

Of course, some activist asshole would prolly just call the law on 'em if they tried that. We have a lot of Marylanders that moved into the area. I hold them totally responsible for this kind of crapola, the liberal bastids!

I noticed all of the same benefits you guys did after you quit, but the one I noticed most was how much better the sex was. Even after a few weeks I became aware how much better that was.

The gov. has put a stop on smoking in the restraunts and bars around here , and even banning it in the workplace. Either way doesn't effect me a bit. Thank God I saw the light !!

The thing that sucks the most is not quiting but being forced to quit.

Are there new regulations in NY state about growing your own tobacco? No one is forcing you to quit smoking tobacco Glen.

They are stopping you from making other folks breathe your second hand smoke.

YOU or us smokers are the ones "forcing" on this topic. I see thoughtless smokers lighting up in cars full of kids, I see them throwing their butts on the ground (expecting their mother to come pick it up I suppose), and I see them bitching and whining they are having their freedoms imposed upon.

I smoke a pack a day... hate them, but am chained to the habit. I'd have to chain myself to a tree in the woods to break it... but I try and smoke "considerately"... and as a result I see those around me who don't give a crap... smoking in no smoking areas, putting out ciggs in flower pots, ect.

Nahh, our freedom stops where others freedoms begin. Folks should have the freedom to walk into a bar and not get knocked on the ground by the wave of Tobacco smoke from drunken patrons smoking to do something with their hands.

Dewy - tobacco is a controlled substance, hence we have the ATF, "Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms." You need a permit to grow certain strains - you know - the ones they use for cigarettes, pipes & cigars, the ones grown for such huge PROFITS.

But as they say...no one likes a quitter...

There is a strain of tobacco that is more like a deciduous tree that I've been thinking about getting, though. It may even grow in my area, & it's smokeable, with nicotiene. Prolly tastes like burning puppies, though...
