Steve Winwood and Peter Gabriel's voices sound very similar.

Speaking of PG, I picked up his new "Scratch My Back" CD. My favorite is his cover of the Talking Head's "The Wind In My Heart".

I just noticed today at lunch...a new SW song came on and I thought it was PG for a minute.

Winwood was 14 when he sang "Gimme Some Lovin'," for the Spencer David Group, wasn't he? Man he had a powerful voice, even back then!

I don't think I'd ever confuse him for Gabriel, though.

I did love that "Back In The High Life" solo thing he did, what, 20+ yrs ago?

I don't recall ever hearing anything bad from either one of those guys I loved everything they did! I always thought they sounded very similar.

To be honest no. Yes they have similar range and style in some respects. The whole music concept is different for a start. I'm not sure whether Peter trained his voice to be that way but he has two resonant sounds when he adopts them. Sting for example did in fact train his voice to be what we hear now over a period of years just to be different,

Perhaps Peter did just that too but the pair and there are a few newer singers now who try to wear that mantle to me at least are different and I'm pretty sure most could tell the difference?

Winwood has a superb voice, great tracks. They do however sound a little similar but I think that is where it ends for me really.
