First of all let me commend you on your response. Not personally attacking, factual. Your a gentleman and I respect that. I believe you and I can have a polite discussion.
As far as resolution 1441, it is a UN document. YOu can say there is spin on it and that may be true, but it is still an official UN document.
The no fly zone was setup for the protection of the Kurds in the north. It was not illegal, it was necessary and I posted the link to the information. As far as your statment on a no fly zone imposed on our country, I agree with you 100% however, my/our country did not lose a war and thus was not subject to certain mandates by the UN. So the no fly zone is completely legitimate and necessary. Now after losing a war, and being subjected to UN mandates do you not, even somewhat believe the firing on our aircraft to be an act of engagment/war? What do you think would have happend if the Nazis or Japanese were still firing on us after they surrendered in WWII?
If you disagree with the UN resolution so be it but now you are stating conjecture, not fact. The facts are in the document no matter how subject to interpretation.
As far as the Christian perspective the Lord said "There will be wars, and rumors of wars but see to it you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come." Matthew 24:6
Nothing further I need say there.
Irminsul, the Declaration of Independance and the Constitution are pieces of paper. They provide the rights contained within because our fore fathers were willing TO FIGHT for them. The war of independance gave you that right, not the piece of paper and this the heart of my arguement. World War II did as well. Go take the declaration of independance to an extremist and tell him something bad about Allah and then tell him he doesn't have the right to kill you because the document says you have the right to free speach. Guess what my friend? Your dead, period end of story. (Salomon Rushdie ring a bell?) And if he wants you bad enough, he will take everyone in your office, town, train etc. That is what we are fighting in Iraq right now and yes the Iraqis are caught in the middle. But, it is there country and if they support or aid Al Queda our enemy then they are the enemy to. It' just that simple. It's a horrible deal but I would fight and die for my family. That is where the line is. That is my stand on the issue.
The first Bush admin showed unbelievable control by not completly desimating the republican guard and why was that? Because he was worried about the out cry from the world at large. So once again as General Patton stated "Our elected officials always stop short leaving us another war to fight".
YOu ever read Patton "War As I Knew IT"? A great read.
Lastly, your music kicks booty! I like it alot.
* Resolution 1441 is not a legitimate resolution because it is based upon illegitiimate acts. In a court of law any judge would dismiss or throw out an oath, contract or promisary document based on such a thing. The No Fly Zone was not actually put in place to help the Kurds (hint: We never gave a sh*t about, nor do we NOW give a sh*t about the Kurds). It was a way to keep the jackboot of the military on the throat of Saddam Hussein even though he - as is now known - never did a thing to us. Again, an illegitimate act construed upon a bed of lies. Because you wouldnt like foreign jets buzzing your home, yet you brush it away when it happens to Iraqis merely because they "lost a war" shows me that your view is lacking consistency, logic or empathy.
* As far as Christianity and war....you are purposely miscontruing that passage from Matthew as an excuse or approval of war. It is in fact saying that war is an unfortunate human priclivity...but then again so is "sin" if one is a Christian. And they don't usually try to excuse the continued perpetuation of that act, do they?
I have traveled and lived all over the world - and nowhere but this country have I seen Christianity practiced in such a twisted, aggressive and predatory way. Using it to justify "wars and rumors of wars" is the most sick, pathetic thing I've seen from the annals of religious belief.
* Like Bush, you dismiss the founding documents of our system (The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution) as mere "pieces of paper". Well to be accurate, George Idiot Bush called them "just a goddamned piece of paper" even though he took an oath to protect and defend one of them. But at any rate, they are the very bedrock of our system and our way of life. You say they only thing that gives us rights is military force. If you truly believe that, then you just took a giant, steaming, nasty sh*t on the graves of every Founder who signed those documents. You truly do not understand our system, and have reduced us instead to a collection of warlord fiefdoms, not much better than the those of Genghis Khan or Attilah the Hun. I strongly urge you to get to some civics classes, on the double. And PLEASE don't vote until you do!
* Iraq never...EVER...did anything to you or me as Americans. They never deserved to be attacked and occupied based on a tissue of lies construed by the Bush administration. "We" fight there because we are ordered to by a criminal bunch of outlaws who have shanghaied my system and dearest principles, and actually spat in the faces of those who died while fighting in a JUSTIFIED war, like WWII. You say you would fight and die for your family. Well guess what. So will the Iraqis and any other freedom lovers around the world. They will fight and die and kill our soldiers in the pursuit. And they will win, as they are already winning.
War is a lousy thing to enter into lightly or wrongly. And this is the most wrong war I have witnessed in my 47 years so far on this planet.
