Really? I was under the impression that it was designated for worship, first, & rest, second, in which case it was made for god.

It would seem so, since it is a day set aside to worship God. But God being self-sufficient, doesn't "need" anything.

So, in actuality, it was made for man. Meaning it is a TOOL to help man set aside a day to worship God, so they keep Him present in their lives and hearts. If man was made for the Sabbath, that would mean that man was created to serve a "day" of the week.

See what I mean?

We worship God, not days of the week. ;-)

The statement gtZip quoted, from the Bible, is about PRIORITIES. What it is saying, is that the LAW ITSELF (including even the Sabbath) was made FOR MAN, to aid mankind in their relationship to God and to assist in eliciting more righteous behaviors. Whereas the people this was quoted to originally, began worshipping LAWS, more than the lawgiver. The laws are NOT to be worshipped. Only God should be worshipped. We should never hold laws of BEHAVIOR above the law of LOVE. We should never hold laws in reverence, over the LAWGIVER... God, our Father.

Craig, your final paragraph is prolly what most christians miss, & that fact is prolly the very thing that turned me against the religion, the reason I decided to disassociate myself from it all, & look for alternatives.

It's the best thing that ever happened to me, as far as I can tell.

I understand that completely.

It's my opinion that, now that Christianity has become so entrenched, they are repeating the same mistakes that Jewish leaders did in Jesus' day. You would think they would have learned from that example. Sadly, it doesn't appear so.

I'm glad it's working for you. I hope it also works for God though. ;-)

Since I don't know your religious experience, I can't even presume to know whether it has deepened your relationship to God or not.

I do know, that I have a very secular (and rich) uncle. And we have gone round and round on religion many times. Last I knew, he claimed that he had a set of morals and rules of his own design, and unlike most other people, he says, he follows them without fault.

I laughed out loud on the phone at this revelation, and said something like...

"Now there's a challenge! I follow the morality code I made up for myself!"

In theory, his morality code could include "Always do what is in my own best interest, no matter who else it hurts!"

Not many brownie points for making up your own morality code, if it doesn't align with God's heart and intentions for us.

But I wish you the best in your religion.

Sincerely so.

Well I thought I'd better explain myself.

Sodem.
A piece of grass or turf pulled up by its roots. = Sod.
Sodem probably means to hurl pieces of sod at other people.
Just didn't want to offend anyone on this highly religious thread. :D
