Do you consider this over-playing by the bassist?

Cacophony (look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls...)

It's great in context.

Not overplaying. It fits in well. I really don't like the "singing" though.

Similar playing style to Tony Levin. Not overplaying, appropriate for the style. I have the Japan albums, very good (Gentlemen Take Polaroids, etc). David Sylvian did a series of albums with Robert Fripp that were excellent.

Although I don't tend to list bass influences, I would have to admit to be drawn to both Karn and Levin. Throw in John Myung and John Taylor too.

Enormous player. Heard someone like this at a club years ago. Pity its live since its not the best recording, especially the singing.

I just want to add that every time I see a good bass player like this that isn't meshing with the guitar line, I want to vomit in pain.

If you are a good bassist, don't settle for playing with riff raff from your local bar/strip club/crackhouse.

I thought for a minute that I was going to enjoy the beat.
I was wrong. :(
