Case in point - I sent 10 songs in for copyright back in July of 2008.
They were all instrumentals.
One of the songs really starting to grab me, after playing it for a year. And I started 'hearing' lyrics that fit the song really well.
So - I wrote them, re-wrote them, and one more time - and they were perfect.
Next step: I re-recorded the song with the lyrics in 4 part harmony.
It's a good rock songs (yeah: I do rock, too) called "That's What You Said."
.
Ok, so now my next step is to submit the lyrics, for re-copyright. But - to do that, I need the old copyright number.
They still haven't issued it.
. . . wonder what it's going to take for them to change the way things are done there.
Hell - we hear about the 'stimulus bill' - paying all the money to bankers and what-not. . . . how they want to creat jobs, yadda-yadda-yadda . . .
They ought to look in their own back yards first; they could easily create a few hundred more jobs at the Library of Congress.

Surely RM it doesn't need to be that hard? I think you should just go ahead and submit it again. Same person filing same song and all that....
I don't know if this place is just a doorway to the gov site?

International Copyright Laws and Treaties
"There is no such thing as an “international copyright” that will automatically protect an author’s writings throughout the world. Protection against unauthorized use in a particular country basically depends on the national laws of that country. However, most countries offer protection to foreign works under certain conditions that have been greatly simplified by international copyright treaties and conventions. There are two principal international copyright conventions, the Berne Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Property (Berne Convention) and the Universal Copyright Convention (UCC).This link is to an outside source"
I think the deeper you delve and I will continue to know you'll find that first line very true indeed.

I read up on all the international copyright laws, when I almost went into partnership with a great friend of mine (semi-famous) from Canada.
(I eventually turned her down, because she wanted to change the song too much.)
Anyway - the International copyright laws have nothing to do with this song.
The song (music & lyrics) is written by me. Production and sound-recording by me. All USA.
.
By the way - if you just go ahead and file - and if anything is wrong - you can lose your $35, and may have to resubmit.
This is why people hate bureaucrats; they're small minded people w/ more power than intelligence or compassion.
.
Whatever . . .
Anyway . . .
S'ok. I have no shortage of songs; over 40 copyrighted, 11 pending, and I still have about 35 more songs recorded and ready for further development, yet (lyrics and vocals).
Several of them are completely finished - when I get a couple more done, I'll submit them as a collection.
I'm writing a new song every 8 days or so.
The bottom line of all of this? (you won't see this coming)
