We started tracking last Friday. So far it's going REALLY good. After drum tracks and 1st rhythm guitars, we are 10-hours ahead of schedule. Which for those of you who know, that's pretty freaking amazing.
On the first day, Jordan finished drum tracks for all 12-songs in 6- hours!! No scratch tracks, all on the click. I think this picture is very much earned. He is a champ!!
Iz prepping for our little BBQ session on Jordan's day. We're pretty much gonna do this every session. Hahaha. You gotta make a party of it and feel at home. It just makes the days go by easy.
Ryan did the actual cooking. His steaks were AWESOME!! He's a great cook outside of being a great musician.
Yesterday was Ryan's rhythm guitar tracking. Here's the guitar spread we were working with:
2- Squiers, a Hamer, and an Epiphone. Of course the Squiers and Hamer are customized, the Epiphone is just baddass stock. Very vintage sounding as well.
The amp spread:
Fender 85 SS, Roland JC-50 SS, and a Fender Hot Rod DeVille. All were hooked up simultaneously for each track. Three killer sounds going on at once!! The clean channel possibilities between the amps and guitars were pretty much limitless. We were all amazed at the vintage tones we were able to create for Ryan. Like kids in a candy store!!
Ryan tracking with his Epiphone. He did all of his rhythm tracking in 5-hours!! Just cruised through all of it pretty easily. A few punch-ins here and there, and that was it. If you look to the right, we took the DeVille and created a reverb chamber with it. Still had all 3 working at once.
Our producer Brian checking out my DeVille. If you look behind him, you'll see he has a Fender Deluxe. I was showing the difference between modern and NOS preamp tubes. I had a spread of my heavyweights installed in mine.
Needless to say, he became a big believer real fast!! He told me more than once, he couldn't believe I had such a good clean channel just by re-tubing. I'm gonna help him re-tube his Deluxe before all of this is over.
I continue my tracking on Saturday. We have a week break for a show coming up. I did set up and do a little yesterday. I finished 4-tracks after Ryan was done. That's 16 guitar tracks in one day, all to the click!! Not bad at all!! For my tracking we created dual reverb chambers with the Fender 85 and Roland, and used my DeVille as the main dry recording. The sound in the room was freaking incredible!!
I'll keep you guys posted as the album gets recorded. But so far, it's going better than expected. We're going to try to finish the rest of my tracks and IZ's Ukulele tracks on Saturday to make up even more time. The more time we make up, the more candy we can add at the end to really make it an interesting Album.
Peace all!!
