How about a little online challenge to help us meet our goals eh.
I can sweat off a pound in one workout so I measure by kg (2.2#) when matching fighters or cutting weight.

I'm 5' 8 1/2" @ 84kg
S.T. Goal 83kg by 01/09/10
L. T. Goal= 77kg

Can you drop a kg in a week ??
And I don't mean water either !
Can you maintain adequate hydration and cut a kg in a week ?
If it's back next week. Its water, pure and simple.
So, are you the MAN :?: :?:

I don't have anything that measures in kilograms and I don't really want to do the math :)

I don't know what cutting a kilogram of weight in a week is like or if it's even something I should pursue.

A week is an arbitrary unit of time, and what I've learned in my weight loss endeavors is that it's pretty much a waste of time to worry about what you lose in a week (unless you're on a game show and trying to be the biggest loser).

For me, weight loss is akin to being an alcoholic. I have to take it one day at a time, and not worry about what I am going to weigh next week, or the week after, or in a month.

I started my program 38 days ago. I weight 246.8 lbs. I lift weights every day and spend 45 minutes on a treadmill - every day. I weighed 237.6 day before yesterday. I chart my weight every couple of days and all I care about is that when I put it into an Excel spreadsheet it shows a steady decline. How fast that happens isn't really a concern - only that it happens.

I am confident that if I keep doing what I'm doing - eating better quality food and smaller portions - working out daily - that in the long run I'll be fit, I'll feel better and I'll look better.

If you want to "challenge" me to any sort of weight loss competition... We'll, you'll be disappointed, because I am not really into competition when it comes to weight loss. I am into doing what is necessary for me to get into better shape, and that means not being competitive, but being consistent instead :)

Colors,

Competition is just a tool, akin to the buddy system bro.

I appreciate George making the offer!

I know "I" could use someone helping me stay accountable!

But you are right about eating healthy and taking it gradually, as a consistent and HEALTHY way to lose weight, and probably keep it off.

You're doing awesome having passed 30 days!

Congrats!

Soon, we'll have to change your monicker to:

Weight-Fades

LOL :-)

I need to get on this bandwagon!!!

Yep, just a buddy tool. Like having a training partner to call you every morning and say "I'll be at the park at 0445 for our workout" :D
A week is not at all arbitrary for some one who lives his life on the "establishment's" time clock in my experience.
I've done this for years, and been paid to monitor it for others.
If daily works for ya then Gods speed.
For myself and those I've trained. I find daily fluctuations are mainly what is known in the medical field as fluid volume fluctuation.
I laugh at my co workers when they say I've lost a pound since yesterday.
Unless your dying of cancer or something your not going to burn a pound of adipose in 24hrs.
This is as good a place for me to track my progress as any.
Feel free to join or ignore.

I misinterpreted the intent behind the original post then. Sorry Sans!

I would love to use the board as a buddy system - let's keep this thread going then and see what happens in a month or two!

And I don't weigh myself every day - I've done that and I am all too familiar with the daily fluid fluctuations. That's why I don't even get excited about a weekly weigh in. I weight myself about every 3-4 days and I don't put much stock in that number until I can see if over a course of time. I like charts- they have more meaning to me, especially as a visual person.

And thanks Craig - 30 days is indeed a big deal. I've tried this sort of thing countless times over the years, and really, for me, the two week barrier is the hardest. I feel like I can keep going now; I feel much better. My pants are fitting looser... It's all good.

I'll track my progress in this thread and anyone else who wants to do it as well, do the same! Fun for everyone.

Lbs / 2.2 = kg :D
We use kg exclusively in medicine so it's already a set pattern for me.
Being 2.2 pounds, kg's made it easy for me to help those I was training discount any fluid volume fluctuations.
That and every one was required drink 200 - 300 ml of water before training.
It prevented dehydration and the readily available hydrogen ions are necessary to metabolize fat into energy.
General speaking the large muscles of the body will burn the stored ATP for about the first 30 minutes of exertion, then begin to metabolize fat.
It's an oversimplification of the process. But makes a good thumbnail guideline for those whom want to do more than raise their basal metabolic rate.

UPDATE:

Stepped on scale this morning: weighed 226 lbs.

Had to buy new jeans two days ago. Waist size: 36.

36 lbs. left to 190... goal weight. Trying to get as much off as I can before April, because.... Well, I shouldn't share that yet.

Funny this topic should come up today.

I just saw my Dr this morning for meds cuzza my back muscles spasming again. He told me I need to be on BP meds. I told him to go sh*t in his hat, that I will NOT go on daily meds for any reason.

He told me that my BP was the highest today that they've ever seen, & he thinks I need the meds.

I told him that I KNOW what my problems are, & that I need to address them, & the BP crap will go away once I handle them.

My BP was 110/70 this morning. I am 6'2", & weight 253 lbs.

My problems are #1 ) smoking, which I MUST quit; #2 ) weight loss is an absolute must; #3 ) I need to cut down or eliminate my caffiene intake; & #4 ) I need to exercize more regularly.

My solutions -

I just got a really good treadmill. I will spend no less than 20 minutes per day on the thing.

I gotta stop the splurging when I eat, & not eat for 3 hours before bedtime.

I'll eat crappy old oatmeal more often, & cut out the sweets (I have a terribly notorious sweet-tooth)

I'm gonna go back to that awful e-cig until it just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I've already cut back on my smoking, but I find myself really hitting the things hard 1st thing in the morning (hence the higher score on the BP in the AM, when I combine that with the pot of super-strong coffee...I must be stupid or something to do this sh*t to myself!)

On another note - I DID get the codiene & the flexeril that I asked for. I like this guy, cuz he trusts me when I tell him what I need. He knows I don't go in there abusing stuff, cuz I only see him when it's really obvious that I need to see him.

He made me promise to go back in 6 months, to see how my plans for handling the BP are working. I think I can do this, but I don't think it'll be a piece of cake or anything...(mmmmmmmm...CAKE!)

You can do it Phil!

I feel lucky - I don't have a sweet tooth, I don't drink coffee and I don't smoke. My problem was overeating and lack of exercise.

I was lifting weights and spending 45 minutes on a treadmill every day, but I recently developed a Baker's Cyst or Bursitis in my right knee, so the doc wants me to lay off it until end of Feb, and if it's not better, time for an MRI to figure out exactly what's wrong. So now I just lift my upper body every other day.

I've cut back my portions tremendously, nearly cut out fast food (when I get fast food now, I get something under 400 calories), and I've almost completely cut out Diet Coke. I drink water now, nothing else. I used to drink about 3-6 Diet Cokes a day, now I average about 2 a week.

I don't know if it's reasonable or not, but I'd really like to weigh about 200 by April. I have this trip I want to go on, and I'd really like to look good for it...

I found that drinking purified and heated hops works wonders. :D
Seriously though is this a weight challenge? Do we all become when we have a silky side skyline?

Interesting stuff. Is this for the bar ladies? :D

Was trying to encourage others as well as myself to get into better physical condition. Even got my wife and I gym memberships.
I've been so busy with the home front and the band I've only been there a few times. There is money well spent.
Gig tonight so I may do a few Gibson curls . :P
