Whatever it takes to get through your thick skull.

Let me ask you this.. If your tubes suck, and your amp is a muddy or shrilly mess, which all modern tubes do to amplifiers compared to a pimp selection of NOS tubes, especially the ones you employ that come stock with most amps on the floor at GC.

Then what good is a chain of true bypass going into it?

There isn't a pedal made that can clean up the internal mess that exists within the amp. You'd do better with SS. THAT'S what you're not understanding about this discussion.

By the way, didn't you post this in another thread to JW???

mistermikev wrote:

the screamer itself has a pretty good buffer and they tend to not suck tone... so it's probably fine outside of a truebypass loop...

Quite odd considering the stance you've taken so far in this thread..

Keep making an ass of yourself.. I'm enjoying it like I said I would. Pompous elitist asses get no sympathy in my world.

OK, I'll learn you some more.

the tube screamer does have a nice buffer based on the 2sc1815 transistor.

still if you run 12 tubescreamers in series it's going to sound like sh*t.
(and you say I have a thick skull?)

the optimal setup is to have one and only one buffer running on your setup... not 12 cause that will sound like sh*t.

you'll find switchable buffers on the carl martin setups, pete cornish and other high end setups - but you wouldn't know anything about that.

In fact, if you could read beyond a 3rd grade level you'd see that all along I've said to isolate buffered pedals into (ideally) groups of three or four.

again, if you had made it past the 3rd grade you probably would have been able to comprehend such things on your own by simply reading my posts before popping off at the mouth re them, but then that wouldn't be your style.

yawn

Oh, and btw... I get my tube advice from a guy that builds amps... not some moron who thinks because he has the ability to place a tube in a socket that he is a rocket scientist.

Again, if you could read you'd have seen that I've said all along that I have some nice nos tubes in my poweramp section... and according to someone who ACTUALLY has knowledge of amps the pre section in that peavey tends to not work well with nos tubes...

but you are right... cause you know about tube re-labeling (despite having no knowledge whatsoever about tube amp construction)

Scott.. No joke..

RUN!!!

If your tube amp doesn't respond well to NOS.. Then it's the ultimate POS!! I wouldn't take tone advice from you if you paid me.

Here's an article on tonequest talking about NOS tubes under the heading "Trust your ears and ask your amp tech"... it basically says that until very recently china had one 12ax7 version that was generally accepted as fantastic. "tonally superb", "very low noise".

http://www.tonequest.com/articles/article3.htm

it's almost as if again you have no idea what you are talking about shred????

yawn, go play your squire collection through your solid state fender collection.

Are you referring to this??

From the link- "Until recently, China had one particular 12AX7 type that was a fantastic guitar tube. It was tonally excellent and had very low noise and microphonics (all tubes are microphonic to some degree). The factory has since been re-tooled for producing CRTs for computers, a much more lucrative business."

All it does is support what I said from the very beginning. It is impossible for a tube factory to produce tubes as good as NOS and stay in business. This paragraph confirms that.

Even up to last year the old Mullard Blackburn plant in the UK was on it's way to producing the highest quality modern tubes we would have seen. In fact some did make it to the public.. Only to have the factory shut down.

The article you posted is very basic and general. Not in-depth at all. It's an article for noobs.

If your "guy" told you that your amp doesn't respond well to NOS and Modern tubes are better. Then he's a dumbs**t. More likely he knew your amp was a POS, and some believe that putting NOS in POS amps would be throwing Pearl to the swine. In other words, that was his nicer way of telling you your amp is a POS.

I pointed that article out because the tubes he is referring to are recently made sovteks...

They weren't NOS tubes when I bought them dumbass. Did those tubes magically take on some sort of mojo the minute someone placed the NOS label on them?

so lets summarize:

you don't know how to build a tube amp
you don't know about electronics
you don't know about the technology of a tube and how it works
you weren't aware the sovteks I mentioned 30 times are the ones that
are considered good tubes as evidenced by you repeatedly saying they
are crap... only when faced with undeniable proof that they are
considered good do you recant and try to save face...
when exactly is this great tube knowledge going to rear it's head?

that article also says "trust your amp tech and your ears"...
-you aren't an amp tech... and your ears aren't even keen enough to pick up on the massive tone bleed dealt by 11 buffered bypass pedals in series.

ah, but you are aware that tubes get re-labeled...

btw... WHO BIASED SANS' AMP WHEN YOU POPPED THOSE NOS TUBES IN? YOU DID BIAS THE AMP RIGHT?

HHHHHHHHAHAHAHA!!!

I swear, I didn't think you could be any more clueless.

Dog, when it comes to tubes and amps, you have a lot of learning to do. So much, it's starting to make me feel sadistic. If it wasn't for your arrogance, I would just stop right now. Something you should definitely think about before going any further.

mistermikev wrote:I pointed that article out because the tubes he is referring to are recently made sovteks...

Show me in the article where the writer mentions that.. No mention of when they were made, how long production was, who they supplied.. Nothing but saying they were made in China.

I have an overwhelming feeling you've been suckered.

mistermikev wrote:They weren't NOS tubes when I bought them dumbass. Did those tubes magically take on some sort of mojo the minute someone placed the NOS label on them?

No.. I'm pretty sure they sucked straight from the plant they were made in.

I really don't know what you're responding to here. What?? Where did I mention your Sovteks being NOS? In that whole post, I didn't even refer to the NOS tubes you can't identify. I only mentioned that your "guy" misinformed you. If you were told your amp will only respond to cheap tubes (IE, your Sovteks) and not a better built, high quality tube. Then you have been misinformed. It didn't make sense then, and it doesn't now. It's bad information plain and simple. Did he sell you the Sovteks too??

Your response makes NO sense to anything I posted.

I do not, that is correct
I know enough
I absolutely do
What undeniable proof? An article that mentions china and nothing else?
Look below.

mistermikev wrote:ah, but you are aware that tubes get re-labeled...

Yes I am..

The Chinese plant he was talking about is the Sino plant. They are never considered top tubes by any tube pros. Just economy tubes. It's easy to see why Mr. Kropotkin (the article writer) gives them such a glowing review though. There's only reason he would.

http://www.kcanostubes.com/content/news ... egoryID=16

http://kcanostubes.com/products/17/Chinese-R9-12AX7.htm

"Best Chinese tube ever"- Awww. Dang.. They're preselected by RUBY. And notice it says best "chinese" tube ever. That ain't really saying much.

You wanna know why he was vague in his article??

Notice, there is no picture of the R9.

This is typically what a R9 looks like:

Tube on the right.

I know there are Sinos that look like this:

Either way.. By special interest, you've been suckered.

But wouldn't you know it, they get such a glowing review from the guy who had a bunch in stock to sell. The mystery plant he was speaking of never made tubes to NOS quality. They sucked!! That's why the plant shifted gears. They couldn't sell 'em. They couldn't even compete with New Sensor. If you tried to sell one on ebay, you'd be lucky to get $2 for it.

Trust me, whether it's an R9, Sino, Shuguang, or Sovtek (labeled), it's cheaply made and doesn't compare to any top NOS in any way. That is a fact. If you happen to have a Sovtek labeled Chinese tube, congratulations.. You have the equivalent of a Kia Rio labeled Hyundai Accent.

mistermikev wrote:btw... WHO BIASED SANS' AMP WHEN YOU POPPED THOSE NOS TUBES IN? YOU DID BIAS THE AMP RIGHT?

I don't know.. Who biases your PREAMP??? If someone has been biasing your preamp, you're REALLY getting suckered!! Hahahaha!!!

He still has his stock power tubes in his amp.

Thanks for posting though. I got a good laugh out of it.

"He still has his stock power tubes in his amp. "

so by your own words sans' amp SOUNDS LIKE CRAP??!?!?!?!?!?!?!

THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID MORON... THAT HE HAS CRAP IN HIS AMP, AND IF HE USES ONE NON NOS TUBE HIS AMP SOUNDS LIKE sh*t???!?!?!?!?

but a minute ago you were saying how it made his amp sound great??!?!

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked it. "Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents." Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, "What do you mean?" "Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was... 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!"
