We are in the process of adding some tunes to our expanding repertoire. What are some of your favorite blues songs? Could be anything bluesy, well known, obscure, any blues style (delta, Chicago, Texas, etc.) If you were to go and see a blues band what song(s) would you want to hear?

Philby - we just added Leave Your Hat On to our songlist, played it first time at a party last weekend, my Fender Champ decided to fry itself yet again in the middle of that song...I like the Edgar Winter version of Tobacco Road best.

We're also playing several of the songs I listed, and a couple of them are on our "back burner" list too. Sweet Home Chicago and Load Me A Dime both worked out really well.

Philby - Also, did you know that Randy Newman wrote Leave Your Hat On? surprised me when I looked up the lyrics, but that's typical for his songwriting, great writer.

Bob - if you can find a copy, Paul Rodgers recorded "Muddy Water Blues" as a tribute to Muddy Waters. Several guitar players and a dozen or so great old blues tunes. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, Standing Around Crying (great David Gilmour guitar work), Hoochie Coochie Man, Born Under A Bad Sign (that would be a good one to do, I'm thinking about adding it tou our list) and severl others.

Billy - yeah, I knew he wrote it. I'm a fan of Mr Newman's. I think he's one of the best composers out there. Have you heard his lil opera "Faust?" Amazing music in that one.

Little Wing , One of the most beautiful songs written , not 1,4,5, but still very deep blues.

Actually that new lady ,mellissa proctor , has one tune up here that is pretty damn good, its called gunpowder and lead. if you pulled it out of the country genre that she is pushing ,you have a cool unknown blues song. Just a thought.

Wow, thanks for all the input. We have some of these in our repertoire already, Hoochie Coochie Man, Lucille, Come On Part II (everybody seems to like this one), etc. I've also performed many others in past bands. Lots of interesting choices, I'll look into all. Right now I've got a yearning to do some Scream'in Jay Hawkins, especially Frenzy, Yellow Coat and Little Demon. Also a few Little Richard tunes, especially True Fine Mama. Too many good tunes, so little time...

Yo. bob! The absolute best love/blues song I ever heard was off of Randy Newman's "Faust." The devil sings it to Bonnie Raitt's character. It's called "Bleeding All Over The Place." I highly recommend it. You'll wanna change the key, but it's well worth the effort, man. I LOVE that song!
