First of all I harbor absolutely no bitterness or jealousy for ANYBODY in the world of music. I don't begrudge anybody who makes it on ANY level in ANY genre of music. More power to them. Take a look at each individual who has made it big, even each individual in big time bands, and you'll find that every single person has a different level of satisfaction. Look at some of the biggest stars in the history of the music business and you'll find there's quite a few who were pretty miserable. There's been quite a few who were drug addicts and alcoholics, some who probably would have been happier just playing local dives or a small regional circuit. "Making it" in music is a completely individual experience. And it has almost nothing to do with financial gain either. I have enjoyed my on again-off again part-time blues band experience. I'm in a genre that is decidedly NOT mainstream. Blues is always part of almost any music scene. It is almost always difficult to get gigs because there's almost always too many bands and not enough places to gig. Very very few people and bands have ever really made it big in this genre. I do it because it's a labor of love (although I don't gig for free). I also have a family situation that frankly won't allow me to perform music for a living. I certainly would not have the wherewithall to tour. I've been offered a few full time band positions, but I'm grounded by choice and I simply have to be able to go home every evening. We do have some really good originals and my goal is to record an excellent CD, hopefully soon. I am going to market the CD but I am also going to keep playing local clubs and stay home. I like it that way...
