It would be really interesting to know what people were really thinking.

I can only go by the anecdotal evidence that I experienced.

In my house - they thought they were too old.

In my friend's house - they thought they were too old and didn't sound very good.

At work the next day, everyone I talked to said it was a bad halftime show, and The Who were too old. People dug the stage and lights, but thought The Who weren't up to the challenge.

This message board has been the ONLY place where I've heard anything positive about the halftime show. And this is a place of musicians. So maybe you're all just a bit too biased.

I consider myself a musician and guy who respects rock history. But during the super bowl I am primarily looking at it from the perspective of an NFL fan (my favorite sport). You folks here on this board, so far, have been the only people I've heard from who thought it was cool...

I was just saying that The Who are know widely. I wasn't necessarily praising them or putting them down. You are right that the general consensus felt that the band was past their prime and didn't sound that good. I will say that watching them is better than having to go through 15 minutes of mundane lipsyncing ending in some wardrobe malfuntion. But hey.... Im easier to amuse than you Chris.

I would think you would trust your peers on this board before the kids in your house or the folks at work. But that's up to you.

I think the majority of us are in agreement; while not the best performance of their career, it was good that a rock band of their legendary status performed and that most people were entertained. I'm in awe of bands that can last that long, it says something about the musicians, the songs and the fans.

I'm not using my like or dislike of the Who as a reason for thinking another band would have been better.

jimmydanger wrote:The Who in their prime could blow the doors off from AC/DC or Metallica or any other band you could mention. If you don't have a copy of "Live at Leeds" get one and become enlightened.

??? First of all, they're not in their prime anymore, which was the point. Secondly, I just finished listening to the Who in their prime (live at leeds) to "enlighten myself." I'm thinkin you should probably do the same? They both may have the word "rock" on a website's genre category, but clearly there needs to be another label in there somewhere cuz there's whole world of difference between them.

1. Magic Bus
2. Heaven and Hell
3. I can't explain
4. Fortune Teller
5. Tattoo
6. Young Man Blues
7. Happy boy
8. I'm a Boy
9. A Quick One, ...
10. Shakin all over
11. My generation
12. Amazing Journey

So as newly enlightened Who album listener, I stand by my sentiment on this one.

cheers,
Chris

Well, I just read that The Who's performance at the Superbowl is to be sold as a special download for the game "Rock Band", and will be available on PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii's...

--- QUOTE ---
"The halftime performance, entitled "The Who Super Bowl S-mashup," will be available for $2 on all three services. According to a Reuters interview the track will include portions of "Pinball Wizard," "Tommy," "Who Are You," and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

The Super Bowl has become a mega media event where the entertainment and commercials are more talked about than the game itself. The NFL is the only major sport where the championship is decided on a neutral field. I think that's B.S. I still think the team with the best record should have the championship decided on their turf. Somehow the Superbowl is anti-climactic to the AFC and NFC championship games. I haven't been into a Superbowl in a few years now. Too much hype, too much commercialism, it's a shame because some of the recent Superbowls have been excellent games, somehow all the other stuff leaves me flat...
