Sweet sounding axe, CF. That Zoom thingie is pretty good, huh?

Can you use a click track & then erase it? I'm not familiar with the H2.

You sound great.

That guitar solo is cool, I just want to hear more soul in your playing, its great and the tone is great, but theres no real emotion in it to draw me back for more. It sounds kinda slick like elevator music or something. Vai is one of the only shredders that does that to me. His stuff is technically brilliant but it has a real emotional quality that pulls me back. Im not trying to be critical, but if you are getting out playing live, sometimes one note is way more effective than throwing down every pattern youve memorized. I feel that for me anyway, learning what not to play goes a long way.

I hope I made some sense in what I said. And please dont take it as being overly critical, I just like to give my take on music when I hear it. Im playing in front of people 2-3 times a week these days, so I really try to think about what connects people to my playing. I want you to be all that you can be!

You have great chops great tone and the recording is great.

Good Luck in your Musical Endeavers

Very nice Colors.
Inspires me to use my H4 for a little "play with myself" action. :D

I believe you can use a click track and silence it Phil. I haven't tried that yet. There's a bunch of stuff I haven't tried on this thing. I've taken it to two practices so far trying to record the band and I need to work on mic placement, because right now the drums are drowning out most everything else (except our vocalist, which is cool).

That's the most fun thing. I've had the tools to record rhythm tracks before and then play over them with melodies and such. I am totally digging it.

I don't think you're being overly critical JW. I posted this thread for the new acoustic piece, not for the solo (that's been up a while).

That solo is not so much mine as it is my brother-in-law's. That's his album. He asked me to come in and play a solo on a song where he had some space. I spent some time putting together a solo that I really liked, and he didn't like it very much. So he had me play a whole bunch of stuff, and then he ended up splicing it together to make the solo he wanted to hear. So that solo is, to me, a real feat of engineering talent. I mean, it sounds seamless to me, and I couldn't tell you how many different takes we did and how many various "pieces" he used to put that together.

But, I put it on my profile because, up to now, it's been the only recording I've had that I could point people to and say, "That's me playing".

When I write solos, to me, emotion *is* the most important thing. It has to feel. My two favorite solo writers on guitar are Neal Schon (Journey) and Doug Ott (Enchant). Doug cites Neal as a huge influence as well, and you can really hear it in his solos. I think I like Doug's solos best out of everyone I've ever listened to.

The acoustic piece is way more "me". And the melodies in there - that's how I like to write stuff.

So, if you get a chance, listen to it, because I respect your opinion.

I liked the acoustic a lot colors sorry if I got off subject. I really dont feel like I can judge acoustic music as well as electric, but I am involved in a deal where I play acoustic for a couple of hours a night so I am getting there.

I use an acoustic to flesh out basic song chords and melodies.

I will check out Doug Ott, thanks for the heads up.

One player that comes to mind for me is Gary Richcraft, and I know I misspelled it. Go back and listen to Back On The Road Again, from Reo. Not one of my favorite bands but he has that searing lead on that song that brings chills to me. Its basic, but for its genre its killer. It just embodies the feel of the song, you know leaving and hitting the road. Great musical intuition on his part. I think he is a very underated guitarist, and Neal Schon is an icon in my book. Go back and listen to that album he did with Sammy Hagar HAAS, was the name of the band I think. One of the prettiest solos he does is on the song Lights, just fits with out being too over the top.

The thing with playing guitar I think is to get your own voice. I can hear Brian May the minute he starts, he had a defining sound, as did Ace Frehley, simple and basic as it is. I challenge you to find your voice on guitar and let it rip!

You get me started when I have time to post and Im like the energizer bunny, I keep going and going and going..................................

Thanks for sharing!

I loved the way Richrath played the leads for REO back in the day.
Flying Turkey Trot is still very much a favorite instrumental for me.

Chrisss, I love this. Any idea of how nice a flute accompaniment sounds with this...ughhh!
Whenever you guys put up anything that is "flutey" I play along with you.
Not because I think I am improving on what is already great but because I want to have fun with what you are doing. I love triplets, the melody and the fact that it was without vocal. It is mindful of something Billy Mclaughlin would do.

I think you and I would have an amazingly fun time just putting together something with acoustic guitars and flute. That would be a real thrill.

There's no singing because frankly, I can't sing a lick. I mean, I'm bad beyond belief. I make karaoke people sound professional.

I have a much easier time expressing myself with the melodies on guitar.

I'm not a huge fan of these particular live performances, but they're the only thing that's really available from Enchant on YouTube. But I think the solos to "Pure" and "Follow The Sun", as well as the outro work he does on both songs, is pretty indicative of his work as a lead guitar player. And I find it just mesmerizing, emotional, and powerful.
