Craig, Irminsul, I am a patriot to my country in general terms, but I do not agree with a lot of what we have done/are doing.

This country has done tremendously bad things and yet we find a way to justify it, justify senseless wars that did nothing but cost us money that could be spent on healthcare and lives that could have done good things in this world.

I am proud to be an American, but wearing it as a badge is just stupid. I will not walk around like "America is great and rocks, your country is sh*t." That is just a bunch of bullsh*t. We have many faults and need to fess up to them, instead of contorting history/present day reality like a piece of clay.

America has done wonderful things for this world and at the same time has done close to an equal amount of bad that has been completely brushed over. Look how long it took us to get involved in the Holocaust... Look how long it is taking us to get involved in Darfur... Look how long it took us to help New Orleans (Which still is in trouble). We are strong in arsenal but weak in judgment and character.

GA you are a thoughtfull and intelligent young man. Its hard for me to believe you think our Goverment has anything to do with the fate of fools whom choose to live below sea level. No one cry babied or helped to pay to rebuild Galviston when it was destroyed. And hundreds of lives were lost in that one. The goverment aint yo mama, I dont pay my taxes to protect anyone else from poor decisions. If a tornado blows my home away no one is gonna by me a new one or put me up in a trailer house for three years because I dont want to move on and get a job. If I dont have sense enough to by insurance I should take the loss and move on.
If I dont have any better sense than take out a loan I cant afford, Ishould pay for my mistake not some other guy whose trying to educate his children,by makeing sacrifice like living in a home he can pay for and driving a car he can afford.

Seriously though, I think our country, as the strongest and freest land in the world, has an obligation to keep peace and stop atrocities. No that does not mean invade random Middle Eastern countries in fear, or because we do not like their governments, but it means stopping chaos. If there is a slaughter transpiring across the globe then we need to get involved and put a sense of cessation to it.

That is my opinion, lol.

I think as far as regular people go, yes their lives are usually a result of their own errors. On the contrary, it is not the peoples fault when the government does something wrong, they should not have to pay for it. The Holocaust was a prejudice, evil, atrocity that transpired as a result of a psychotic genius/war monger. Many people died and no one did anything to stop it, America should have been there sooner, they should have put a halt to it immediately.

And before anyone says it, I am going to head this off, someone is going to say Iraq is where America belongs because the people are suffering... We brought the terrorist to Iraq, before us they never attacked there, they were afraid of Saddam (At least that is what I have heard, someone may correct me if I got this wrong). Basically we are cleaning up a mess we caused now, we did not need to attack them, but we did anyway (Hell, fake weapons of mass destruction, why not attack? ). So those people are suffering even more than they did under Saddam because of us - that was not like Darfur where the problems are not being caused by us.

You may well be right on many counts GA. I recently cared for an elderly gent whom was a Screamin Eagle. He jumped into Normandy, Holland was in the seige of Bastogne etc. He said no one of his association had any idea of what was going on in the concetration camps untill they walked in. Of course that dosent mean no one one the Allied side knew but an interesting perspective from a man that was in hell and came home. Another gent of my association whom shall remain nameless was associated with CIA. He said that what has now become Al Quida was in payroll of Sadam along with others. and the never found WMD's some of which were used against the Kurds now reside in Syria.
Who knows, we will never know the whole truth, and as complicated as it is maybe no one knows it all.

The truth is hidden in tumbles of cryptic code, that is all I can say.
