I guess you don't know much about Richardson.
He is a stalwart of the DLC, that is the Hillary wing (conservative) of the Democratic party. He and Bill are good friends...
OMG! LOL
This is politics.
He is such a good friend to the Clintons that he RAN FOR PRESIDENT AGAINST BILL'S WIFE!!!!!!!!
----> AGAINST BILL'S WIFE!!!!
Did you FORGET that part?
But yeah, Hillary would still welcome his support, he is a superdelegate after all.
Hillary: "Hey Billy, come support me, we'll forgive you and get you a nice position! All is forgiven!"
Richardson's Thoughts: "Yeah, nice position huh? Like Ambassador to Mexico or something."
Richardson has almost NOTHING to gain from Hillary. He knows that.
1) He ran for president against her
2) His precinct captains were rumored to have told Iowan voters that if Richardson did not meet the threshhold for viability, to vote for Obama. That would win him points too, in a Clinton administration. NOT
3) QUOTE: “Whoever has the most delegates after Tuesday, a clear lead, should be, in my judgment, the nominee.” Richardson made that statement on Face the Nation.
"Whoever?" (wink wink) Obama had a clear lead at the time, and was expected to keep it all the way through. So, he had already PUBLICLY set up his excuse for going with Obama, without being labelled a traitor to friendship.
There was nothing surprising in this endorsement, for anyone paying attention.
What does he gain for being with Obama...
1) A MUCH higher position in his administration than hers, for the reasons stated above.
2) Maybe even a shot at VP, cause there would STILL be two "firsts" and Obama doesn't have to deal with the negativity of Clinton being the other "first" which are considerable. Clinton NEEDS Obama. Obama doesn't need Hillary. Richardson brings the Hispanic vote to Obama, which he needs help with.
3) He gets to look heroic: "Even at the expense of friendship, I did the "right" thing, for the sake of the party."
Look man, with the heat Obama is taking over Wright, Richardson's stock in the Obama camp, went WAY WAY up suddenly.
Obama NEEDED something to take the heat off him, and reinvigorate his campaign, and Richardson throwing his support, not only is a good endorsement, but being a superdelegate, he may encourage other superdelegates to get off the fence and go ahead and sew this up for Obama.
THAT IS HUGE!!!
He should expect to be ROYALLY rewarded by Obama for all that. Whether VP, or something else very high level.
What other decision could he make?
His opportunity arrived. He knew it.
He'll be owed BIGTIME!
