Ok, i walked right into that one

I had a Gibson Paul once, flat top, 3 soap bar pic-ups, 3/4 neck, don't know the model....was as sweet as anything, fell on it's back on a cement floor....shattered the neck in a zillion pieces. Howz that for fuked? My 74 Pauly Paul with the jumbo frets and the 3 way Semour Duncans is almost as sweet, but the nicest thing I've played lately is a Godin LGXT, a very high quality piece of work

My only guitar (and therefore my favorite) is a mid 60's fender mustang with whammey bar.I bought it sometime back in the eighteys at a salvation army thrift store for $15.I was givin an early 60's short necked fender musicmaster from a friend and fellow keyboard player.I swapped the musicmaster to my son for a yamaha synth. Back in the seventies I bought a great moserite from a co worker who was hard up for cash. Some of you older follks may remember the mosrite as being endorsed by the Ventures. Sorrey to say, mine was ripped off.Not being much of a guitarest myself,I do recall it having a very playable neck ,but the guitar seemed very heavy.
Most of the more serious guitarists i've played with over the years tended to use strats,telacasters,Les Pauls and Gibson SGs.The bottom line is its not so much the guitar but the guitarist that matters most.

A film that really catches the vibe of the place is a documentary with a great soundtrack called Peel, The Peru Project... it's some big wave surfers from Hawaii on a trip to Peru. There's places you can surf for over a mile there, longest lefthand breaks in the world. Anyway these guys are all hungover after a party night riding in a car, checking it out and one guy says, "Dude.....it looks like some strange dream I would have." Couldn't have said it better myself.

Awesome. I would love to go there, man. One day I will, lol. But you need all these vaccinating shots before you can go. I have allergies, so that ought to be fun. I am interested in all of that ancient stuff. I know a lot about it.

Someone mentioned a Tacoma, they are also beautiful sounding and playing guitars. I had a Tacoma that I loved, came down with the flu and had set it on the heat duct outlet.... sick for a week while the thing cooked..

For electrics I like LesPauls... But I had an Ibanez Ghostrider that was a sweet guitar too..

amps...Fender Super Reverb and Twin Reverb and my trusty old Peavey MX. Low power practice amp, Fender Champ (all tube 6 watter) can't be beat.

Guitars..right now my favorite is a Korean Squier strat, it's the one in my hands most at gigs, and the one in my avatar. Catching up with it quick is a Cort CL 1500 hollow body, a bit of work and I'm really starting to like it almost as much as the strat. I can't play Les Pauls, or most of them, the necks are always too fat.

Acoustic...I've played a couple of Martins I liked pretty well but most don't really impress me that much, Ovations almost always sound good but don't all play good, and my Takamine is the one that got me to lay down my money. Older Epiphone acoustics were good too, I had one for 10 or 12 years until it was stolen, always liked it a lot.

I always listen to electrics unplugged first too, like someone said earlier in the thread if it doesn't sound full and live, good sustain and just plain soound good, I put it down and move on to another without ever plugging it in. The ones that sound dead and lifeless unplugged never sound good plugged in either. The only exceptions are the $2 and $4 guitars I've bought at garage sales, to tinker with and learn setups and modifications. I make those sound good one way or another even if I have to use them only for slide. Cheap older Japanese guitars often sound just awesome for slide.

I wish I could find a Breadwinner or Deacon, both were excellent guitars. Last time I even saw one was at least 20 years ago. Actually I'm surprised to find someone else who even remembers them, I played a Breadwinner not long after I bought a Mosrite Ventures model double neck (1974), knew immediately I had made a mistake. Wanted to sell the Mosrite and buy a Breadwinner but never did. Now I wish I had...Best thing for me was the range of different sounds available, very few guitars can match the playability and tonal range of the Breadwinners and Deacons. I love the necks...

Concerning "aluminum necked guitars", I offer a short story.

Many years ago I played in a band with a guitar player who purchased a new "Travis Bean" six string. The lad's father, a master builder, told him that in his opinion, aluminum seemed a poor choice of material for a guitar neck. It turned out that his dad was right. Whenever "The Bean" was taken to a gig on a cold winters night, it proved impossable to keep in tune untill the neck stabilized, usually well into the second set! I do recall the guitar haveing good tone and great sustain.

I was curious if you have encountered any similar problems with your "Kramer" ?
