You know, you probably have a very valid point there Mark. I started thinking about the neo-classical/jazz concept and possibly revisiting this in the future and actually composing those lines. If I do this, I would have to drop the rhythm guitar altogether which got me to thinking, what would this sound like w/o the rhythm guitar?? I went to the computer but I didn't save the mix so I wasn't able to actually preform this task to see for myself but I think you're right.
The piece could stand on it's own w/o the rhythm track and written for the 2 melody lines and bass for piano. Even then, I would have to cut out some of the parts to make it possible to play on one piano. So from a classical standpoint, it IS too busy to write for piano (and I'm not even considering your track). I do want to pursue my parts even further, again, when I get the time. In the meantime, I'll see if I can play something more suitable to augment the rhythm guitar. Add a bass line that has more 'swing' and less counterpoint. Then I may kick it back to you for the solo part. Trying to play Gypsy Jazz solos is what ruined my hand for 10 years. I'm not going down that road again. [
I'll see if I have time tomorrow to pull this off and if I do, I'll e-mail you an MP3. OK??
Not so great minds think alike!
When you mentioned Bach's Fugue in Cm and compared your approach to that, my first thought was....that's a two part invention (as in written for TWO voices) and your mix of "Previous Offense" has FOUR! ...my rhythm gtr, your two melody gtrs, and a bass line.
I was gonna suggest you remove my rhythm gtr part, but i didn't want you to get the wrong the impression that "i wanted out" of this because i disliked what you did!
Gypsy Jazz, classical, country, rock, blues.....whatever, space and breathing room are highly subjective and personal. It's something that many of us (i include myself) struggle with. As i've gotten older i've been able to pare down my approach to things musical. (mostly)
I see you've sent me the latest mix w just the rhythm gtr and new bass line. i'm looking forward to checking it out.
Tally Ho!
