Jail is where you go to get an education in criminology. I hate to see a kid with any potential end up there more than a few hours.

If it were mine, I'd visit him while he's there and get him to make a few commitments before you get him out, and then pay his bail and hold him to it.

If you wait until he gets himself out, this teachable moment will be lost. This solution is more expensive for you initially (he has to pay you back for bail, lawyers, etc) but what is he worth to you?

If he goes back on his promises, both you and he will know that it was entirely his fault and you've gone beyond the most you can do.

If he keeps his commitments you will have saved him from a life of crime and have a fine young (responsible) man there.

By the way, prayer doesn't "help".....it's the only thing that really works.

I'm praying with you, bro.

Oh, I've got experience with this!

My oldest son was much worse than what Jeff has described. After a few years of chasing my prodigal son, he finally grew up and is the most disciplined man to ever come out of my family now.

He's managing a few restaurants, has a beautiful wife and I have a beautiful grandson now, too.

Hallelujah! There is hope for our kids but it's not easy to fight the world for them.

Its different for everybody.

My mother got the call from the Police on a Friday night near the midnight hour... The conversation went something like this:

Mr Policeman: "...Yes Maam, this is Sgt <Mr> at the station. We have your son in custody. He's been charged with petty theft and vandalism. We've finished processing him and if you would like, you can post his bail and he'll be released into your custody as early as tonight.

Mother: "Oh dear...Yes , yes ...please tell him I'll be on my way ...and I will see him first thing, Monday morning

Mr Policeman: ...Sorry, ma'am? did you say Monday?

Mother: " Yes , Monday...."

Mr Policeman: "I see, yes of course, gettng a flight out is probably difficult on such short notice.

Mother: "No no...I only live eight blocks away from your station.... Just tell Him to think about the trouble he has caused himself and others, and I'll be there to post bail and pick him up Monday Morning...

Mr Policeman: Yes indeed maam, I will relay that message to him. He'll be in detainment until you pick him up...

My brother's words about the jail (and other prisoners) , were " I sure dont wanna go through that again... "

He went on to become a CPA... to which I replied...Haven't you learned your lesson YET!?

I have been in my studio recording most of the weekend! A friend of my son bailed him out late Friday night. His oldest Brother took him to get his car last night and took his shotgun for collateral. He is working at his new job to get money to pay everyone back. He told my wife (his stepmom) he is planning on moving out after all this is over YEEAAA! I feel that pay increase coming LOL! He is tired of listening to me b!tch at him so i'll just pour it on heavier! I love my son and ALL of my kids dearly. i can do without all the drama and the expense of cleaning up their messes

I used to tell my oldest son, "I'm just buying time for you to grow up....please hurry! I'm already broke!"

It used to be a lot worse here. Back in the 70s it was more common to to be threatened with death by the cops. Rights,,,, you don't have no stinking rights.

Take you to jail,,, Lot easier to just blow your ass away, throw your butt on the side of the road. Think I'm joking.

Things have equalized since then. Cops will take you to jail.

Remember,,, It is YOUR government.

Some of you are so stupid or ignorant I am amazed.

I finally told my stepson some hard facts of life and hurt his feelings a bit. Had to be done though.

I told him that he just wasn't streetsmart enough to be a criminal - and yeah, the laws are ridiculous but the guys enforcing them have guns and jails.

I freaked when he decided not to go to college - although his grades were so poor that wasn't all his decision. (admission: I only went to college for 5 months myself)

He has carved out a life for himself with a nice house, attractive wife, goes to church regularly and gave me some pretty amazing grandchildren.

Does he ever ask me for help? Yeah, but not a lot. And since the help he wants is geared toward private schools for the kids I can get on that a lot more than paying bail! :D

Remember Mr. Haley - you were a bad boy too! (now how do I know that?)

I spent too many days in the can when I was 21 and working offshore.

Nope . . . no dope . . .

Screw jail .

My dad told me from the time I was about 12, go to jail, you'll stay till till the judge lets you out.

My sister ( God bless her ) came and got me out.

And she used my money to do it.
