Some cities are fair-weather sports cities. They gladly support winning teams and abndon them when they start losing. When I first moved to K.C. in 1987 the Chiefs were perenial losers and often games at Arrowhead Stadium were 3/4 empty. When Marty Shottenheimer started coaching the Chiefs and they made the playoffs every year that's when the Chiefs started selling out. Conversely when I got here the Royals had just won a World Series a few years before and were still a big draw. Now the Royals have been doormats for years and Royas stadium is empty. Kansas City IS a fair weather sports town, too many good barbecue places to eat. Why go see the Royals lose when you can eat at Oklahoma Joe's barbecue for example?
