I think that I've finally layed down my last lead for this project, that may or may not be birthed in July...

I was searching for a delay to give it just the right amount of "something", but after about 5 tries, I just said... Eff it.
Copied the track, turned off snapped to grid, and slid the copy to exactly where my ear said yes - then panned them hard Left and had Right.
Like an old school delay method.

Does anyone do this type of stuff still?

Is it a bad idea?

Like Mark said ... if its the sound/effect you want, then its all good. The funny thing is that if you listen just to a soloed track and add some kind of effect like a delay, it can sound all wrong, but then you throw it into the whole mix and it suddenly works.

lol Accidental goodness? yeah I am familiar with that process as well..

+1 for "if it sounds good, it is good", period.

One caution I would make when doing this (or any mixing, in fact) is check your mix in mono - this will find any phase issues between left & right (where an instrument can disappear if the phases are reversed).

indeed.

context is EVERYTHING. i find this especially so with some of the "mallet instrument sounds" from my malletKAT. i'll hear a "steel drum", "marimba", or "vibes" patch and say to myself "uh, no. close...but no cigar".

then hearing it in a mix (or live) w the rest of the story (other instr) and it's easier for me to live with!

You learned me something Mike, thanks! I should know that but then again no one knows everything?

This place is loaded with knowledge. (The trick is to be able to disseminate the good material(s) from the bad).

Some folks argue that 'checking in mono' is not needed, no one listens that way .... wrong! The guy with one earbud/bluetooth in his ear using his smartphone is listening in mono. Most bars/clubs' PA systems are mono (stereo output of a jukebox, CD player/MP3 player/radio summed to mono).

Planet

You need to get hip man. Only two years ago a sky diver was narrowly missed by a meteor.

Having StarWars would be nice in the event of a big rock coming our way.

I liked Reagan - he seemed like a man to me, and more: a gentlemen. But his record is almost as bad as the rest of the uni-party yahoos. Higher taxes, more abortions, more beaurocracy, amnesty for illegals.

And here we are still ducking meteors.

Ivan by the way, was close to collapse anyway because communism doesn't work and their economy was hosed by too much welfare / warfare spending. Now ours is too. I suppose we can say we won...?

And now Zero and his neocon bum chums want to start that crap up all over again. The left and the right - boy it's great to an opposition party....wait!

Cap'n the post above is a classic example of "the bad" progressive political bating at best. :P

well, mike.....i've gone this long WITHOUT being hip......might be hard to change horses at this point!

i do see your point. the only thing worse than when da bat fly in de hair is when a meteor crushes you like a grape!

jeff...that's your choice if you want to interpret it that way. ( and i know nine times outta ten...that's how you will).

but honestly (believe it or not), my intention was not to bait anyone. as far as i am and was concerned....i don't need any more conversation or discussion about reagen's merits or faults.

i was simply weighing in w my (albeit sarcastic and smartass) views on his accomplishments after one of your team felt the need to canonize him and credit him w saving us from Ivan's evil threat (which as Talbot explained....really wasn't much of a threat at all by that time)

as to you guys using the TACTIC of tossing the term "progressive tactics" around left and right whenever you think it scores you some points...that TACTIC always cracks my $hit up.

like i said above.....i expressed my views on the subject in a sarcastic and smartass way. (which you wrongly interpreted as baiting).

now...lemme ask you a question. sarcastic and smartass comments are a "PROGRESSIVE TACTIC"???????

nah.....i've heard and read too many conservatives do EXACTLY the same thing.....even here on BM.

pretty much everything i've heard blasted as a "progressive tactic" is exactly the same behavior engaged in by those in both camps.

and to lay it off on one side or the other is just like accusing someone else of engaging in behavior that they regularly do themselves....or projecting their feelings (of anger for instance) upon someone else.

i hope you give that some thought, bro. 8)
