A so-called Christian band member locally now sits in jail for assaulting his wife and other drug charges. I guess he'll have to now get religion in prison for the next fifteen years, and possibly make sure he's got plenty of Vaseline for added protection...

ouch!

Well, it only works if you actually follow the Lord's instruction of putting your flesh on a cross every day.

Otherwise, Christians can be the worst pagans imaginable because they will justify their actions with self-righteousness.

I have no data to back me up, but thru history more people have probably been killed over thier religious preferences than anything else.

Kinda something to ponder about a loving God.

No offence to anyone here, just a thought.

Two points:

1) It is pretty scary that Americans joke about sodomy in our prisons, and we've all done it. Yet we pretend that this is a free country and superior to others in respect to human rights. That we tolerate this is horrifying. That is torture - the very thing our 'leaders' have denounced as intolerable.

2) A loving God - in the person of Christ, told us very explicitly that if He the teacher would have to suffer, His followers could expect the same.

He is not our doting grandfather in the sky. He created the universe and His ways are not ours. If I die today - that's a big deal to me - maybe not to Him Who looks at our lives from the perspective of our eternal lives - of which this is a very small part.

Christianity is not a religion for the weak. Sometimes I wish it were, but there it is. The only question that really matters is this: Is it True? If it is well - that is something to think about. As Dilbert noted when confronted with this question - "It could impact the kind of files I download."

How ironic.
In my life, these so called "Christians" and "Born Agains" have been some of the most hypocritical, judgmental, hateful, spiteful people I have ever met.

It is not something to ponder about a living God, rather it is something to ponder about the deception of men.

In my life, these so called "Christians" and "Born Agains" have been some of the most hypocritical, judgmental, hateful, spiteful people I have ever met.

Your statement says a lot about you.

Dude

so you've met Christian hypocrites. Big deal. The question is not about that - it's about one thing only: Is it true?

Every daggone person in the world could be an asshole and wouldn't change the reality of God and His Saving grace.

FYI that is Your truth. God has the REAL truth! It is undeniable and absolute. This life is not easy as I'm sure you have noticed? We are here and alive to make a choice. You folks that sit in judgement of imperfect people have to high expectations of people and religion! As the old saying goes Christians are NOT perfect just forgiven!

The understanding of what it means to be Christian alludes those whom have no right relationship with The Father.

Let me clear it up.

We are all sinful human beings . . . that is why Christ voluntarily gave His life for us.
Not to make us perfect in this life, but to pay the wages of sin into the next.

I'm not meaning to beat up on you - sorry if it seemed like that - we've all met annoying Christians. I think CS Lewis described that best when he noted that if they seem like a pain in the ass at church just imagine what they'd be without it! (I paraphrase)

I get that better than most because I'm certainly the odd man out at my church - but folks do work hard to try and make me feel welcome. I'm sure some see me as a radical ass hole - but they make the effort. So I do too.

Something I have grappled with over the years is a mortal man saying with absolute certainty that "I am a Christian" or "I am saved." I don't believe that mortal men have the final say. I believe that all we can do is aspire to live as Christians and hope that we are saved. I'm not sure that people who go through a cycle of sinning and being saved over and over again aren't in fact deluding themselves. After death, when we are given the final judgement, we will find out then what's up.
Those people who are "self righteous" and "hypocritical" DO rub me the wrong way.. I much prefer to follow somebody who leads by example, and not somebody who tells me how to lead my life. My favorite televangelist is Benny Hinn. Whether you believe Christ can heal or not, Hinn has an angelic quality about him I find interesting.

I know I am saved.
I have been given assurance from The Holy Spirit.
Not by works, but by grace, as a free gift.
No . . . I do not have the "say so" but I know what I've been given in my soul.
I cannot explain it any more than I can explain why I feel what I do when I look into the eyes of my own children.
But it's there. As real a fire on my flesh, and undeniable in my spirit.

I fall short of the Glory and Justice of my Father in heaven every second of every day of my life.
It's not so much that I commit individual sins, ( though I do ) my whole existence is sinful.
I strive pitifully inadequate to live Christlike as evidence of my salvation not for my salvation.
My salvation is not a result of my deeds, but as I said, a free gift from my Loving Father, His Son Jesus my Sacrifice, and The Holy Spirit whom leads guides instructs and corrects me continually.

My "final judgement" is GUILTY my punishment was paid in blood by Christ Jesus.
