Granted the technique is different, but if your goal is melodic music you can do some really wonderful things on either instrument if you understand either well enough.
And Jazz isn't bad, it's just different.
I equate it to the milk shake; rock might be any of the regular flavors as in v/c/s but jazz is that other stuff that's tasty except not around all the time like that shamrock shake.

well, it's easy enough for a gtrst to "physically" play a bass and make some music on it. but having the right mindset and understanding your role as bassplayer is another thing entirely.
some gtrsts can do that and some you just want to pummel w whatever is handy.
being content and savvy at being a good accompaniest is a definite requirement for any bassist worth their salt. helps if you pride yourself on your accompanying skills too.
some of the best rhythm gtrsts i've played with are actually bassplayers.
i find my favorite bassplayers to play with are the ones who solo. they're content to "get theirs" when they take a solo.....so unlike bassists who DON'T solo...they don't have to "express themselves" by playing a lot of busy a$$ fills all over the place.
thanks to all for checking out the videos and for the positive responses. truth is...those guys carry my dumbass and make me sound like i (sort of) know what i'm doing!
