Have not seen Jackass myself, the astronaut line originally came from an early 80s british programme called auf wiedersehen pet. It was about a bunch of geordie brickies working in germany, the line has always stuck in my head lol.
Irminsul, in answer to your question when i started playing synth in the 80s [lost my analogue virginity to a Roland Juno 60] the uk music scene was very exiting experimental progressive and tolerant. From 84 onwards things went down hill fast, naff shallow pop and the emergence of boy bands....these glorified pretty boy dancers still make my speakers heave and vomit when they start up their whining little boy voices. Of course this is a bit of a generalisation, we do still have some excellent artists, it just seems to me that they are massively out numbered by a lot of crap most of which can be knocked together on a computer in a couple of hours.
On a more positive note lol, we seem to now be going back to the drum, bass n couple of guitars type band again. At least this format involves people actually playing instruments again and usually attempting their own lyrics.
Maybe music tolerence depletes as we get older, the old parent not liking the music their children are listening to scenario. Although recently i did have a jam with a few teenagers who proudly informed me that they had just discovered Pink Floyd. How refreshing.
