As for me, I can't say that I am hot, but I clean up quite nicely :P . A little makeup and a bustier goes a long way :? AND when I perform my butt off on stage, I'm gonna try and look as hot as I possibly can depending on the venue. However, I want my ability to stand on its own first and I have never ever felt dissed by the male persuasion as a musician. Even if I did, that would not discourage me as a musician.

The Shirelles .. buts its pointless to argue given there are lots more good female bands. However, I agree its just a silly poster child. And focus on the music. Another just to mention for all female metal is "Kittie". Who had various metal topping hits. Here's a example of one of their latest songs > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsuTuAVJrF8. I prefer a mix actually. Because then you get to combine many experiences from both genders.

dizzizz wrote:One thing that's really began to annoy me is the comments on female musician's videos on youtube. Looks at someone like, say, Meytal Cohen. All the comments are about how hot she is, and only some of them mention the music. It's disgusting. There's a million camwhores on youtube for you to go say that kind of sh*t to, go watch their videos. She's playing music for the enjoyment of others. Quit being dicks...

It's the same with bands like the agonist.

We get it.

She's hot.

But this is a song, not a porno. Comment on the music, dickweeds.

Ha! I used to correspond with that woman. I asked about playing with her. She told me that it was $250 a gig, and $50 a practice. She said she would give me a discount if I wanted to use her. She was really nice to me. Did she think I was cute, maybe?

I think girl bass players are the coolest looking around. If you're looking for image, get one. They just add extra color to the stage.

Not trolling but....

Let's face it. Sex sells. First and foremost.

Rock tends to male dominated especially in certain genres (like Metal).

Women that have done really well in bands tend to be in a mix, not "all girl". It seems to me that all girl bands tend to have the "perception" as a novelty-- See, we're an all girl band. Other than the Go-go's I can't think of a huge all girl band (pardon my ignorance or malfunctioning brain cells to recall one).

Seems to me that women tend to do way better as either solo acts or in a mixed band.

That said- you can't deny the impact of Heart, Patty Smyth, Patti Smith, Fleetwood Mac, Ethridge, Benetar, Sheryl Crow, Shirley Manson and plenty of others

What about Vixen? Some kick ass metal chicks there. Some of these guys are obviously pros at showing their ignorance. There are many girls in this world that im sure could run circles around you big mouths, they are certainly spread out more than guys but ya know what? If you could group the better ones into all girl bands then theres no doubt they could hang with any male band. Doubters should look at a female guitarist named Orianthi for example, guess what? Steve vai was featured in one of HER videos, and im sure I can hold my own with any of you guys on the drums, Godsmack? Yea I play that...

Hey Jessica, I agree with you 100%.
There are a lot of female musicians that kick ass.
I have tried to put together an all female band and actually came
close (just needed a drummer) I'm having a hard time finding
musicians of ANY gender that want to play. Your not that far away from me and I did send you a message a few days ago.
Maybe I'm not what your looking for or you didn't get the message?

I'd have to disagree with that one. I'm sure there's a statistic somewhere that can show that the most successful bands in the world were roughly the same age and grew up together. It's hard to start a band from scratch that has the same cohesion and spontaneity as the garage band you were in with your best friends. It definitely helps to be around the same age, or at the very least, the same level of maturity. What kills me is that when I do sit in with older guys, they typically smoke pot like they're 16 and they complain like they're 12. I've held off from really making an effort to start a project because it has been a long time since I've met a musician that I wouldn't mind hanging out with outside of a rehearsal or a jam session.

You are of course at liberty to disagree. And your point has some validity.

But to play devils advocate for a minute let me suggest ...
Would seem to me you may be a poor choice of character ?
Or just run in the wrong circles perhaps ?

Age has not to do with talent, skill, determination, or character.

And that IMO is what we should be looking for, not the age or sex of an individual

As far as women ... being a nurse I have worked with women predominately for many years after being raised working oilfield with predominantly men..
Many women ( I really hate to generalize but here I go again ) remain in constant competition together. Also many women have to feel they are " friends " in order to cooperate in accomplishing even the smallest of task. Where as men whom may go to fist city after working hours, can ( again in many cases not all ) cooperate in order to complete a given task simply because they realize it must be done and the individual whom they may be in contention with, have the needed skill sets..
