Girl Friday wrote:So I've been noticing lately that the front women in the local bands in my area seem to have a new uniform. This usually consists of kool-aid colored messy hair, hot pants with fishnet stockings and either a boustier top or shredded t-shirt...it pretty much looks like an outfit thrown together with whatever you'd find in a strip club's lost & found box with a few accent pieces from the Salvation Army. The rest of the band looks normal. I kept wondering what the hell was going on and hoping my bandmates didn't expect me to dress like that.
Then yesterday I came across an article on MSN about "Women Rockers Who Keep Things Beautiful" with a photo of Kesha. Now it all makes sense; trashy hobo is the new shabby chick. And apparently I need to start tuning in to VH1 again.
I realize this isn't the first time in history that front women have donned crazy, skanky, costumes...Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Cher... But it never fails to make me ask "Why, God? Why?" It just feels like a sell out.
I'm getting all verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves.
The overall perspective is simply that the female gender is still considered sex dolls. Even abreast the changes that have gone on, the world largely does see this still as true. Even if most men try and openly advocate equal rights, these same men are equally turned on by the "trashy, do everything, shake your stuff" girl. And if anything was to denote this behavior as indifference it is quickly looked away from. With such sayings as "Sex Sells", and any myriad of wordings one cares to undertake in delivery. However, please do not hold this rant for all men, just most. All I can say to this is try and be the best you can be as a performer. And care little for society and what it expects. I have read a few things on this site from various members. And some of it essentially wanders off to doing mindless monkey following to what others do. As a person, not just a artist, always do your own thing. Regardless if it sells well. That is what I consider to be a true artist. One that holds close their dream.
And even as a man I can say .. most men are moronic brainless pigs that let their lower half dictate how they should be. What those girls do doesn't equal art or the embracing of anything. Over trying to use their bodies to deliver a sell. Rather than their creativity.
I am but a dream amidst these shadows. The black mass of chattered bugs in my brain is all that I know. To kiss and bleed these demons through my mouth. To less in mind the cage of iron beating and to scurry like a mouse. -Daniel Towsley
