has anyone ran into a main problem on only the first 6 channels of a mackie powermixer? 7 & 8 work fine all the time, but sometimes 1-8 will only work on the monitors while othertimes they fade and come back.

Whoa! Get a refund fast and buy a Soundcraft. Not kiddin' that bad boy is about to go up in smoke, and it just might take the speakers with it.

Probably just a dirty "break" mute switch. A little contact cleaner and you are good as new.

From the Mackie owners manual:
"Possibly the most important feature on the PPM Series mixers is our ingenious Break switch, which mutes channels 1-6, but allows whatever is connected to the Tape inputs to be heard. You'll be glad you set this switch when some drunk yahoo jumps on stage during the break, and rips into "Stairway to Heaven.""

There is a mute button that shuts down channels 1 thru 6,It is intended to mute stage chatter on breaks.
If the "Break" or mute button is pressed in you lose channels 1-6.
if by "Fade and come back" do you mean 1-6 are dead?

Always check your "break button" if it is pressed in then channels 1-6 will be muted.

There is also a Main Monitor routing switch make sure its not set to main/main (If you are also powering Monitors with the 808M) If you are power Mains & Monitors Make sure the Amp is set in Main/Monitor position.

Make sure the speaker cables are plugged into the correct speaker jacks.1 amp is designated to power the mains the other is designated to power monitors in the Main/Monitor position (check that button}

Always check your Amp routing button (Main/Main) or (Main/Monitor) before you power up the 808M,do not switch the Amp configuration while unit is ON.

I've seen a Mackie 808s that tended to overheat after a few hours. When we played out with it, we would shut is down between sets and it was fine. We were doing 4 hours a night then. I have an 808 M and it runs fine. I did have transistor burn out recently, but it was pretty cheap to fix and now it works fine again. I love it.
