Lynyrd Skynyrd, the way they were in the '70's.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will release their new album Live From Freedom Hall on June 22, 2010 as both a CD/DVD package and as a stand-alone DVD. Live From Freedom Hall captures one of the final concerts to be recorded with longtime members Billy Powell and Ean Evans, both of whom passed away last year. The release is a tribute to and a celebration of Skynyrd.

The band will return to the road for the next several months, touring with Bret Michaels and 38 Special in June before embarking on the Hannity Freedom Concert Series in August, 2010.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s last recent release, God & Guns, was released via Roadrunner/Loud & Proud, which entered the Billboard Top 20 at number 18, the band's highest debut since 1977. God and Guns got its title from the band's belief in the Second Amendment, that Americans should have the right to have guns.

Band members Johnny Van Zandt, Rickey Medlocke and Gary Rossington have appeared on right-wing talk show host Sean Hannity's Hannity show to promote God and Guns. Van Zandt stated on the show that he believes children should pray in school, despite freedom of religion issues, and the fact that in this diverse country, many religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism, do not share a belief in the Western religions' idea of a patriarchal god figure.

The members who appeared on Hannity have stated that the Democrat Party members of the group did not appear on the show.

The band announced last year that it was going to tour on Hannity's self-titled "Freedom Tour," which helps raise funds for charity. Their Hannity concert dates begin in August 2010.

How will right-wing views held by Van Zandt, Medlock and Rossington play out with fans of the band who believe that praying in school should not ensue in government institutions that are supported with the taxpayers' money, especially taxpayers that practice varying religions or no religion? How will it go over with Lynyrd Skynyrd's fans from earlier decades, who do not want their children indoctrinated with Western religion in school? How will it play out with fans who do not support owning guns, and who believe that there has already been enough bloodshed on the streets, too many lives lost, due to problems with guns, not to mention deaths caused each year by inexperienced people or children that gotten have access to guns? What about those fans who believe that God and spirituality laced with and guns and violence is an extremely misguided hypocritical oxymoron? Or the band's fans that dislike Hannity for his many other right-wing views?

What does Skynyrd think about this? Band members said they knew the album's title God and Guns would be controversial, and they also said they were ready to face the (no pun intended) gunfire.

Throughout the decades, Lynyrd Skynyrd has had varying configurations, having had many different members lost throughout the years, due to deaths, infighting and personal problems. Most famously, the tragic 1977 plane crash that killed three of its members sent shock waves through the rock and roll community.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was recently inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and has a catalog comprised of more than 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million.

Throughout the past year, the band has made appearances on The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, FOX News Channel’s Huckabee, Fox & Friends, PBS Soundstage and other television shows.

The theatrical film release Almost Famous, arguably one of the best fiction rock and roll movies ever made, is based on Cameron Crowe's experiences touring with The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I've not seen but some footage on TV so I am probably not really qualified to say anything but it's never stopped me before.

They seem to be just riding the coat tails of dead men.

That being said I have my bible and my S&W within easy reach.
