omg I am blind after that link...

I listened to Craigs' pick and it made me think a little.

Edit to insert link.

I wanted to put up Gimme Shelter, but my hand was guided to this instead.

I don't know how to choose just one, so, I guess I'll go classic...

It kind of encapsulates everything that rock and roll has stood for.... Freedom... Rebellion... Sexual liberation, and all that, with one of the KILLER RIFFS of all time!

Thanks :-)

Your's surprised me at first, but it makes sense. It's a really full, classic rock and roll tune, and it's an anthem for the working man! Has it all too really... guitars, organ with leslie, horns, even harmonica!

You always hit us with a different take on things!

Not the first thing most would have come up with.

Pretty cool!

:-)

WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!!!

Ha ha!!! This song is almost completely DRIVEN BY THE BASS!!! One of the great driving bass lines of all time.... Would that have a "little" to do with your choice?

;-)

I've always been drawn to bass-driven stuff, even way before I picked up the instrument.

The original of "Working For A Living" had no horns, of course, but I don't mind them in this performance. (I'm not usually a fan of brass, prolly cuzza my sensitive earholes.)

Cap, your choice surprizes me, but I dunno why. I guess I was thinking along the lines of top 40 stuff...This is a good choice, too, as would have been "Gimme Shelter."

This says it for me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N2CANatVYQ

not sure if there exists a song where they just say "rock n roll"...
I mean... there's that kiss song... "I wanna rock and roll all night"... but that has all kinds of other words in it.

I guess rock n roll is a lot of dif things to a lot of dif people.
Rock around the clock was rock n roll... and to me that seems like the most likely candidate but...
johnny b good was rock n roll...
heartbreaker was rock n roll...
hot for teacher was rock n roll...
maybe even smells like teen spirit...
perhaps more...
so... I'm not so sure I know what all rock n roll encompasses. It all depends on your age, your influences, your understanding of the history of the genre and most importantly whether or not you play a musical instrument!

btw have you heard that new huey lewis and the news lp? I really love it. So many great tunes... it's about a year or so old now but...
my other woman has another man
let her go and start over
we're not here for a long time
all great IMO.

I really hate songs that talk about or even use the words "rock & roll" as a rule. I also hate songs that spell words out to me like "R-O-C-K in the U-S-A"

LOL

I like most of those, mike. I guess they're the exceptions that prove the rule for me.

Never understood the urge some ppl have to sing about the "rock 'n' roll lifestyle," though. I mean, how many ppl can relate to that stuff? I just can't. Prolly cuz I'm not really that much of a rocker...But what IS the rock & roll lifestyle?

You would think that I would pick something driven by flute but this is the all time best song ever written in the history of modern man and woman.
