Since I moved here, I've made quite the fool of myself with my ignorance of animal habits, I must admit, Zip, but I'm learning.
I really HAVE seen some very odd things, though.
A dead squirrel standing on three legs, holding his front right paw as if he were about to take another step when he died & froze in that pose. His eyes & mouth were covered by gnats, so I know it was dead.
I saw a turtle who appeared to jump off a little rise on the side of the road. He went nearly 2 feet! I would never have believed it was possible if I hadn't seen it.
A squirrel running across the road holding one of its young, I think. The strange part? It was running on its 2 hind feet & looked almost like a running human. You would have had to see it to understand how weird that looked. I wouldn't have thought it was anatomically possible.
A 7 foot black snake in one of my rabbit pens being literally torn apart by a rabbit.
Psychic deer (see that other poat).
Pileated woodpeckers eating my house. I'm gonna kill one of them one day & do it up like a cornish hen! (I know...nothing odd here...except they're so bold about it that they often won't even fly away when I yell at them.)
I'm not really 100% sure, but I
think I saw one of those legendary big black cats on the lil mountain near here. All I really saw was the hind quarters & tail, but they were definitely NOT those of a house cat.
I nearly tripped over a gray fox one time, when I was gathering wood in the woods with a cast on my foot. I think he waited until I was 2 feet away to run, just to taunt me. Animals seem to taunt me a lot.
I kicked a beaver in the head once, cuz it scared me when I was fishing by walking right up to me with a tree in its mouth. I didn't think that wild animals would be so bold, but if I'd have stood still, he would have walked right through me, I do believe.
I've been attacked by an emu when I stood too close to a fance.
Every time I get near someone's pet rat, they climb up to my ear and make those icky sniffing sounds & tickle me with thier whiskers. This has happened 4 times, & it never fails to oook me out. ("Zemmiphobia?" LMAO!)
I've whistled the blues with some local birds, & they are often right on time with that little "beep beep" call & answer thing.
I put a male cat in a rabbit pen one time. The male rabbit raped him. He seemed to like it.
I went to a STCKMASTERS house recently. He has llamas. When they saw me & my grandson, 2 of them raised up on thier back legs & waved thier front paws in the air, almost like a salute. He's never seen them do that before or since.
