I believe all writers are basicly gifted. They are creating something from absolutely nothing. It pops into your head, how do you explain that to someone who can't do it? It makes no sence to people who are not musicly inclined.

I have made no attempts to explain it. It just is.
My band mates just accept it, the way I accept the way they write as being a personal gift.
It is even harder to explain how they can pull the music out of my head with just a basic frame to work from.
Even though our music is simple, we have great chemistry as a band.
You cant buy that at Musicians Friend.

You are very lucky sans to be in that position. So many musicians are starved for input from others.

Lucky or blessed? Either or both ? I'll take it .
When Ray walked into my Kwoon and asked me to play guitar with him back in 05. If somebody would have said we'd be gigging much less recording original music. I'd laughed them right out the door. 8)

Craig we are both the same you and I.

Indeed there is a not so secret formula. Song writing is such a stress reliever. I usually write one or two a day with at least a chorus and verse and throw them on my phone if nothing else. Like you said if you get inspiration you better record it. Because it is your very own emotion manifesting itself into sound waves.

To be able to lay down a rhthym with meaningful raw vocals is unlike any drug. It's something I must do daily. About the Bridge, I dont have a problem making a bridge with the guitar. But lyrically it can be challenging. A bridge is a great oppurtunity to do something that will really grab the listener.

I write alone %90 of the time as well. Pure song writing is often neglected in a band. When it should be the number one priority imo. Turn the amps down. Break out the acoustics and make a pot of coffee. And this is coming from a lead guitar player. Once the music is complete then polish it live.

I start off with the verse and progress furter once lyrics are established. Then I draw inspiration from that for the chorus. Thats your backbone right there.

I would take it as a compliment if someone stole my song. Of course there would be legal action taken. But if you can write one hit song you can write another.

You write so many songs. You should record some and post them.
Then we can hear what you're talkin about.

I would if I had something better than 56k..
My upload speeds are around 1kb a second.
Live out in the sticks.
Some of them arent always good but some of them are and I write alot and I know eventually one of them will be great.

I agree with you!

Good songwriting is HUGELY important!

And from what I hear lately in the industry, THIS IS THE TIME for Songwriters! It's a songwriter's market right now. Good musicians are a dime a dozen (doesn't seem like that when you need one though - LOL) Singers too. What is harder for the labels to find right now, are top-notch songwriters!

this is getting out of hand, a good song is a matter of opinion, i hate it when threads like this run and run, lets start a tyson v ali thread too, it's pointless, we all have our own way and thats that, you, we, us, generally only know the music we are fed by the mainstream media, anyone who listens to friggin cuntry music should not comment on this subject, and imagine by john lennon is the most over rated piece of childish crap ever written.
now flame away

WOW Ham, I guess you are showing a side of your personality that you should have kept hidden. Errogant, Pompass and small minded. Your coments come from a small world. Good luck with your future in the music business.

Sorry but i'm neither errogant nor arrogant, well maybe a bit but only justafiably so, a good song is opinion, and that is a fact, my opinion on imagine is just that, opinion, i am entitled to it and should never have to hide it, and as for cuntry (am i spelling that correctly?) anyone heard of experimental country? or prog country? all of it stinks of generic backing track cd's with the same cheesy three part harmonies (this it seem is a law!) just dubbed over it, sorry but that IS what it sounds like to me. I dont hate all of it, in fact i like some of it (cant believe i just said that) and "east bound and down" (the theme tune to smokey and the bandit) is properly one of my favourite songs ever, what a sound! however, cuntry (damn!) is more rife with mediocrity than any other popular musical style i can think of, and to add to that, when it comes to the uk, they just put a boom boom boom beat over and make it even worse!!!!!!!!!!! i can't just stand by and listen to people being ripped off by unimaginitive crap and say nothing, i want better for you.. the most punk thing you can do is stop listening to punk! theres my new motto
