I said that about Dukakis way back when, and also Kerry.
I get where you guys come from, but I don't agree with the EXTREMIST views of her. She is a VERY capable woman, and in EVERY office she has served, she worked for the people, and was praised for improving the economy of the state, building infrastructure, lowering taxes, bringing federal monies into the state, etc...
She used to keep a jar with the names of constituents, on her office desk as Mayor, and would pull one out every day, and call up the citizen and ask...
"How's the city doing?"
She has also brought corruption and ethics charges against Alaska politicians, even those in her own party, who used state funds improperly, or politicians who had conflicts of interest with businesses getting favorable legislation, etc...
She is ethical and hard working, and obviously handles any task set before her.
Her knowledge of history and international affairs is correctable. She is taking the steps now, to involved herself in national and world affairs, which was clearly not her main focus as a servant of far-away Alaska.
My concern is not that. It is whether her religious beliefs, will interfere in her politics. In 2002 she said that would not happen. But BEFORE that statement of hers, she had "inquired" about removing books from the library, that residents had complained were inappropriate for children, because of foul language, adult content, etc... REMOVING BOOKS FROM LIBRARIES is a HUGE CONCERN, although... she NEVER DID remove any books, and claimed that the inquiry was on behalf of the numerous requests, and was more of a rhetorical question, than something she planned on carrying out.
Is that true? Who knows.
It is possible, I guess, that in making the request, she would then be able to let the concerned constituents know what the legal reasons were, that it was not possible?
But my guess, is that she acted on behalf of the constituents, and probably personally had her own "appreciation" of their concerns, because of her own religious values, and yet, thought better of it, and chose not to take such actions.
The consideration of it alone, unless they were pornographic materials, is still a mistake, and worthy of some concern.
Her career in public life is as follows:
Palin has served in Government for 17 years
Wasilla, Alaska City Council
SERVED TWO TERMS (Did not complete 2nd term - BECAME MAYOR)

--
