Well thank heavens that group doesn't statistically drive a Buick or a Lincoln! How many distractions can ppl handle?
Technology, far as I can tell, is NOT making our lives "simpler."
Remember when you only had to dial 4 numbers to call your neighbor? I do. Now, of course, you must dial TEN digits to call next door, but at least they're push-buttons now, right? And once you set up your speed dial, you only need one!
Never tried an atl-atl, but I'm fairly good with a bow & a gun. Gimme one of these damned space cars, though, & it just frustrates me. I just wanna drive, dammit, not have a convo or a wrestling match with a machine.
There was an old woman who had a new Buick around here, about 20 yrs ago. The electrical system went out in her car as she turned it off in her driveway. It was summer. She couldn't unlock the doors or open the windows, & she cooked to death in her own driveway. If she'd had a cell phone, she could have survived, right? Of course, if she'd had window cranks, she would have, as well!
I've learned to use a foot-adz & a broad axe to square up logs, as well as a chain saw. The hand tools give a much better appearance, & don't really take that much longer to use, either, while you get a bit of a workout. The more techno we use, the fatter we get. The dumber we get, too. And our land fills get fuller, too, as we toss old technologies away & replace them with the new.
Our technologies may kill us in the end, rather than save us, imho.
Science ain't all that, in spite of what the pseudo-hippies think. Every damned thing we invent causes another ecological problem, or a moral problem, or dumbs us down in some way, or complicates our already over-complicated lives.
I do like my 'puter, though.
