I just hated him when he stole my intended future girlfriend from me...
Valerie Bertinelli

But...
The only problem with that style, these days, is that when Eddie did it, it was fresh, and he was the best at it... He didn't INVENT it, but he certainly POPULARIZED it. But that was way back in the late 70's and early 80's. Everyone has heard it repeated by countless guitarists for 30 years now.
That's the problem with those guitarists who depend on it.
But, there will always be hammer-on's pull-offs - tapping... Hell, if you want to be fair about it... Paganini probably invented the technique, when he used it on... VIOLIN, not long ago in the uhh.... 1800's

So there will always be a place for it.
But after the overkill of the 80's and 90's... It's gotta be used sparingly and mixed in with other things.
An interesting question...
"Has the electric guitar done all it can do? Or will someone come along AGAIN and find a way to bring new juice out of it?"
I have seen so many things done on guitar in my lifetime... you wonder if there is a point where nothing new can be discovered?
