Hello folks! First of all, I'm brand new, and I've been browsing the forums a bit, but haven't really found what I'm looking for.

I'm Rick in Indianapolis. I'm half of the folk do "Patchwork"..we do Appalachian, Celtic, Contemporary and Original folk music. I play guitar, hammer dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, tinwhistle, and a couple of other things. Holly plays fiddle and mando and we both sing.

I've been playing professionally since 1978...started as a pianist, then moved onto a bluegrass band, until finally finding myself in Patchwork.

We stay pretty busy during the warm months, but things drop off during the winter. We're looking for additional projects and opportunities.

Also, Holly is in pretty good local demand as a studio vocalist and violinist, so we're looking to expand her contact area also.

SO...should I create a seperate profile for each of these?

And, I'm looking for how you, who have been around for awhile, use bandmix! Particular successes? Disappointments?

I look forward to hearing your stories!

Welcome aboard, Rick. The first thing the fine folks here are going to tell you is...

POST SOME TUNES! We always like to hear music from someone new to the board.

As far as how I use bandmix, well...

I originally came to this site to find band members-to no avail-and I've been here some time now.
I did manage to make ONE booking contact, and ended up playing with a drummer that was also on this site (we met in person rather than through BMIX).
The main thing that keeps me returning here is that availability of experience and knowledge. There are a lot of good musicians on the forum, and it's a great way to get insight into situations...that is, different points of view.
Anyway, good luck and hope to hear some of your stuff soon.

I just use the forums to spout off at the mouth, & I've gotten pretty good at it. My ads get answers occasionally, but usually not from ppl who actually read the ads & can fit in at all with what I'm trying to do.

I don't live in a big city or anything, so there are fewer ppl out in my area who really could fit in.

I've met a cpl ppl from BM, & they were great folk. I look forward to meeting more.

Thanks for your replies! I'm going to post some tunes tomorrow, I'm too preoccupied by my beloved Colts right now. This is a nail biter! :)

OK fellas, I got a couple of quick things uploaded. I'm going to work some more on it today, and will post a message when I've got a bit more uploaded. Thanks!

I use it mostly to park my music, see how people in other genres and areas of the country like it, and to chat with the friends I've made here over the past few years. But find other band mates? I don't think so.

Well, I am a bloody spammer.

I write/copy/paste reviews in several sites.

Incredibily I receive a lot of good feedback.

Go figure...

I primarily use Bandmix by perusing the forums just to get different perspectives from people who have way more experience than I do.

I also use my account to post a few pieces of music, just for validation that I don't suck.

However, I initially signed up with Bandmix to look for other musicians. And I have a semi-success story about that. I hooked up with a drummer and we started jamming. One thing led to another and before long we had a band, but we never could get out of the basement. We went through several lineup changes, and the most recent lineup seems really solid to me. We're rehearsing now and I think we'll be playing some shows in 2010. So it's all good.

I use bandmix as a paddle.

I used to come here looking for musicians and singers.
The level of expertise I'm looking for, in some other genre than metal or rock and roll - apparently is not available in my area.
Key word: 'available.'
Those who are qualified, able and willing - live nowhere near me.
.
I've been coming here longer than almost everyone on the forum, btw - several years, now . . .
I've seen the enviroment go from laid-back supportive friendship - and really, really good friends - to angry antagonistic pessimism, - and then back again to a middle-ground.
We're in a middle ground, now - things are relatively peaceful . . . folks seem to be getting along ok . . .
. . . although, I wouldn't really know, come to think of it: I NEVER go to any thread that's not about music . . .
:)
But the music-threads seem to be reasonable.
Anyway, I was coming here for a while to discus music - 7ths, 9ths, 6ths . . . composing, copyrighting, and what-not.
Then I was coming here for another year or so, seeing what kinds of music people liked, and what they thought of my stuff.
That was pretty helpful, the comments were pretty insightful, covering a wide range of experiences and opinions.
.
So, it's been pretty cool, mostly, but when people began talking about politics and religion, then music took a back seat, and - so did I.
Every so often folks from here will contact me on my Myspace page, with an observation about something musical, an offer to write lyrics for me, an offer to collaborate on songs, or to ask me a question about copyrights or recording or something. MySpace, for me, is 100% music.
.
But this can be an ok place to hang-out.
.

I built up our band here two of our five members (well three if you count me) are Bandmixaleros.
I have gotten some gigs though people I have met here.
I have made some friends. Some of whom I have had the pleasure to attend their performances. Others I have just met to put a face to the profile.
I have gotten a lot of help in the form of critique as well as technical information from the musicians here.
I have enjoyed countless hours of musical entertainment.
I have received musical and personal moral support and offered the same.
Not really THE place to book gigs or find players but it happens for those whom are lucky and persistent.
Overall a very diverse and amazingly talented community of players.
I for one am proud to be a part of it.

I use it for feedback. I had a successful online collab with Jimmy Danger above. I've met 4 of my friends from this small but tight forum while on tour. That was VERY rewarding. Welcome to the board. Oh yeah. I also advertised to bandmixers on the tour. Maybe 60 or so emails. I met one guy in Shreveport. He was really cool!

A PADDLE, Chippy?

BM is a useful tool, & as everyone knows - EVERY TOOL IS A HAMMER, EXCEPT A SCREWDRIVER, WHICH IS A CHISEL.

Useful tool yes for some isn't it, but I prefer flesh and blood composed with eye contact, after all we can write what we want can't we - over a period of time, that is?
I now know why your walls are not square,

Funny, I've been occasionally refered to as a tool, and I'm pretty sure a screwdriver is a drink...
