Congrats to Dick Wolf for finally bringing the issue of Medical Marijuana to the prime time tv audience. By giving Lt. Van Buren cancer, I had hoped they would take it this way, and sure enough her son brings her medical marijuana, after a small objection, she's convinced when her husband says, "This is medicine, its proven effective, take it Anita!"

She is not shown taking it, we are left to wonder. then, the CHIEF OF POLICE comes in to see her and says, "Someone told me they smelled marijuana on you Anita" She says, "I can explain.."

He then interrupts and gives her strong breath mints and the contact information for a discreet medical marijuana supplier, and says he understands and did the same thing when he was with cancer...AWESOME SHOW!!! This alone will make major strides for the medical cannabis movement!

Having ANY drugs illegal is stupid. I say legalize it all and then put criminals behind bars. Criminals as in people who commit actual crimes: murder, rape, theft, kidnapping, vandalism, etc. People who do drugs may be stupid, but they are not criminals until they commit a crime...

I don't see any form of fiction as being all that important a factor in swaying the minds of the public. They still have their years of propaganda conditioning to overcome, along with the religious right's rants. Imho, fiction cannot compete. If John Lennon, et al, couldn't do it, how do you expect a single episode of a cop show to accomplish it?

Thing is, in today's society, people are more likely to believe the characters they trust on a 20 year drama than the people who run things in this country...and rightfully so most times

Marinol is already available. I have administered it myself. But only once to my memory. The "fun" aspect is absent from the medical use formulation, you get no "buzz" from it. According to those whom have taken it.
It is a shame something as simple as weed has been made illegal, however the legalization would drastically reduce the profit margins on both sides of the "law". I dont see that changing, at least in my lifetime.
Much in the same way that the entertainment industry has attempted to "normalise" Homosexuality on every show on TV for years. It is still not accepted as a normal behavior by the majority of Americans.
(this is just an example so dont get yer peckers all bent)
I doubt if an episode of cop sit com/drama will make any difference either.
I understand you are passionate about this subject Mike, but perhaps you should look at it from a dispassionate point of veiw, It can help you in planning and adjusting strategy.

There are a few people in Calif that would disagree since many houses in some areas are turned into grow patches thus ruining property, in fact destroying property.

If you want remedies try some spice mixes.

You do get a buzz from marinol, I have tried it, but it is obviously synthetic...man made and has harmful side effects. Marijuana has the side effect of a buzz...if taken properly (ingested orally or vaporized, not smoked) it has ZERO harmful properties.

That's bullsh*t!

It has ANY of the harmful properties that SMOKING has. Like cancer. And it is several times more potent in carinogens than tobacco.. in other words, it causes cancer FASTER than smoking cigarettes. It also effects short term memory, which could explain why you forget who you are from one month to the next? (just ribbing) LOL

And I support it being decriminalized!

We have the right to use alcohol and tobacco, despite some adverse effects. Marijuana should be no different.

Do some actual research Craig, marijuana is found to have anti-cancer properties (even when smoked), it is found to not only PREVENT some cancers, it will also reverse or stop the growth of some as well. Marijuana also contains ZERO carcinegens when eaten or vaporized. Smoking has carcinigens and is known for causin upper respitory problems, however it is NOT related to cancer in any LEGITIMATE university study. There are plenty of studies by the DEA that will tell you otherwise, but Harvard and other legitimate sources (mostly in England unfortunately) will tell you the truth. This is a topic I can assure you you do NOT know more than me about.

As a matter of fact, marijuana, when taken properly has not only got nutritional value, but you couldn't eat enough to overdose and die....however, you CAN overdose on WATER.

Oh, I don't doubt that you've researched this more than me.

But LEGITIMATE medical sites state that it has more cancer-causing properties than smoking tobacco.

Now...

I don't need the studies to already understand that, because it is harsher on lungs than tobacco is, and causes anyone to cough more than tobacco, water bong or not.

If you are coughing more than from tobacco, it is MORE HARMFUL than tobacco. Your body is TELLING YOU this. It is REJECTING the substance.

It is DEFINITELY harmful, because the lungs WERE NOT MEANT to inhale smoke of ANY kind, which is why we cough!

Nature tells me all I need to know about this.

Same with alcohol.

It is toxic. It is a poison.

But we CHOOSE to ingest some poisons to receive the effect they give us.

Some varieties do make you cough more than others when smoked, I don't deny that it causes harmful side effects when smoked...it does lead to upper respitory problems, makes you more suseptible to colds and chest congestion, but it is proven in RECENT studies that it has antigens for cancer, even when smoked, but when used over long term. Short term, occasional recreational use is not going to have the same benefits. Again, let me clarify, smoking is not the safe way to use marijuana, but as far as any foreign matter you can put in your body by consumption (eating), marijuana is probably one of the safest, and certainly one of the most fun. Psylicibin Mushrooms (blue caps) are harmless to you as well, though they will make you trip your mind away, but you would have to eat your weight in them to die, which is impossible. Peyote, another substance that may make you puke if you don't make tea from it, but eat it instead, wont kill you. Native Americans use Housca tea religiously (as gnostic christians used to).

Point is, marijuana is safe. Our brains have special receptors called Cannabanoid Receptors. Only thing they work with is cannabanoids. There is only 1 place in nature to get cannabanoids, and that is in cannabis. When activated, cannabanoid receptors lead to deeper thinking, a sense of peace, and self healing ability. If we have built in receptors for this substance, perhaps we are naturally supposed to use it.

You made an ABSOLUTE statement that is innaccurate, that's all.

It is not HARMLESS.

The better argument, is that...

"Marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol or tobacco and these substances are legal. Marijuana should be too."
