Does anyone have experience working on a cruise ship as a Duo? we're a married couple who have been pro musicians for years with bands, but are now ready to go two piece - live keys & guitar, plus tracks. Pop, classic rock, easy listening, Top-40...

Any tips on what the living conditions are like, average pay, availability, length of contracts, general working conditions, etc. would be much appreciated. Thanks!

There's some info here on that (all I know in the subject, anyway) -

There's also some pretty good fishing advice there, as well...LOL...you gotta love how a thread can mutate!

Good luck, & welcome to the forum.

A friend of mine sang disco on a cruse ship for 2 years on a contract. She loved everything about it except the part that when she was not singin' she had to clean bathrooms and scrub the deck. She said the singing part was almost like a secondary part time job. You also have to learn all the safty stuff and how to rescue people from sharks.

Sharks eh.

Hummm, hows about shouting over the rail, SWIM FOR IT !!
Thats as freakin close to a shark as I'll get.

The Doctor said you gonna die !!!

Actually, now I think about it. I'll take shark detail over cleaning a womens restroom.
I've worked the public before, women are NASTY !!

This is true, so read your contract. Now, musicians on cruse ships just play and get 1/2 price massages, sit on the deck and watch boobs.

I worked for the Cruise Lines for 6 years. I worked for RCCL, Dolphin and Admiral Cruise lines porting out of Miami doing the Carribbean Island chain. I had a very nice time. If you don't have any ties with anyone I would suggest doing it. Pay wise, I was making $600.00 weekly (cash). I was performing about 12 hrs. weekly. Got to meet some of the big stars in the business. The only thing I can suggest to you is, When and if you get hired, would you be Passenger Status or Cruise Staff. Passenger status would give you all the priviliges as a Passenger. Meaning your own room and freedom to do pretty much what you want. Cruise Staff status would mean you would would be told pretty much what to do and would be limited in what you can do and probably have to share a room with other band or cruise staff personal. Keep in mind, when I was doing a single act 18 years ago. Things might have changed by now. I doubt it though. Hope this helps you out...

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm still waiting to see if anyone responds to the original question, which was:

Does anyone have experience working on a cruise ship as a Duo?

Wondering about availability for work as a "two piece band" on a cruise ship, best lines to work for, average pay, living conditions, length of contracts, most requested material or types of music, etc...

Oh my! Those cruises where the best. I did my share of Good Ship Lollypops. You do have to read the contracts. I always loved being the cabin boy though. The man overboard drills were great too. Ancors away Sailor! Ta Ta.

What is it about Australia all of a sudden? Ocean Village is being disbanded and sent down there, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 will be circumnavigating the continent in 2012 and now Silversea has said Silver Shadow will be cruising around Australia next year.

Silversea's 30-day Sydney round-trip, from January 19 to February 18, visits Brisbane, the Whitsunday Islands, Willis Island (for the Great Barrier Reef), Port Douglas, Cooktown, Darwin, Broome, Exmouth, Perth, Albany, Port Lincoln, Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne and Hobart in Tasmania.

Prices start from £11,282 per person including all meals, drinks and gratuities, but excluding flights.

Cunard has three circumnavigation options in 2012 - 22 nights sailing from Sydney on February 14, 20 nights departing from Fremantle on February 8 and 21 nights cruising from Adelaide on February 11.
