I got to hear some great trax from this country guy SCOTT TINGLEY. All the tracks were recorded analog at this great studio in florida. Then they moved them into the digital domain for mixing and mastering.
I knew how RAT recorded testing 2 so maybe that was a bad example. BUT whatever works and works well is the way to go. Sorry that doesnt help to narrow it down,but even in this day and computer age....2" tape and a 4,8,16,track recorder is still a beautiful thing. ESPECIALLY if you are a good performer and can nail stuff in a straight through performance. Cut and paste seems to be the operative word once you leave the world of band mix because to many players have not done enough live playing.
I hated to think about Punches because even that changes the feel.Sure the tone and the sound may be similar....... BUT it's not.
