I know it's a tough call to pick just one live performance with all the ones we've all probably seen, but for me it was the Joe Walsh fronted James Gang at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto...I'm guessing around 1971 (the were touring the "Rides Again" album) So tight, and ridiculously good sounds coming from the Les Paul/Marshall/Echoplex, and the raunched out Hammond/Leslie combination.

Hard pick, seen lots of good shows both major productions and bar room rock.

saw Revolution Mother and Tiger Army last feb, it was one high energy concert from beginning to end and it was at the Mad Hatter in covington ky, so the bands just walked around and talked to everyone before and after they played...real class, not too many bands do that anymore

It would not only be difficult it would be impossible, I've seen thousands of concerts. There are some that stand out: King Crimson/Robin Trower in 1974, Pink Floyd in 1971 and 1975, Jethro Tull with UK in 1978.

I am certain I haven't seen as many live shows as most people here. But I've seen most of the stuff I've wanted to see; Rush last year on Snakes and Arrows tour (that was a biggie, and a great show), Yes (twice, one with Raban, once with Wakeman), Queensryche (three times), Heart, ZZ Top, Cheap Trick, Journey, Peter Frampton (very cool), Aerosmith, Yanni (one of the best concerts I've seen)...

A lot of shows I've seen I'd categorize as "Great" (especially since I've got some sucky ones to compare them to, like Poison and Don Dokken).

But one show has stood out above them all, and that was: Dream Theater.

It was pretty awesome watching the masters at work. The level of musicianship is incredible. And they played pretty much every song I could have wanted to hear; all the really long epic stuff. It was fabulous. Really awe-inspiring stuff.

I must be weird, many people like them for sure, but I didn't care for Dream Theater when I saw them a few years ago. The vocals just didn't go with the music and it was just a mess. They are one of the few bands I've walked out on. I did see Pettrucci with G3 and he was good. But one man's poison is another man's meat.

in the past- Rush "Grace Under Pressure" tour, Spectrum, Philadelphia (Nov 5th 1983). One of my first arena concerts, in the 2nd row, lots of pot, lasers, and a flawless performance, and being that close to my idols... priceless!

Current - Serj Tankien and the FCC, at the TLA in Philly, touring "Elect the Dead" Dec 2007 (I think). Notably this guy is a showman in every sense of the word, and being up close and personal and seeing his facial expressions and movements was amazing... The best part is that I wasn't expecting it

Yeah Kramer I heard Serj was great; I saw System of a Down a few years ago and they were amazing. Incredibly loud.

Hands down the best performer Ive seen is Prince

He sat down on a couch with a Rolling Stone magazine that had him on the cover and was reading all the accolades from the article. I always thought of him as too serious, but he proved to me right there that he was cool.

Hes got songs, hooks, looks, he performed his ass off and can probably shredd with any guitarist youve ever seen.

Im with Jimmy the prog rockers like DT just leave me bored. I cant stand to hear endless wanking. I do listen to them sometimes for ideas and such and to get my shredding fix. Actually I like all the cover tunes they do better than their originals, but they just overblow those at some point.

Ooooo how could I have forgotten the 2112 tour. Yes Rush was very impressive.

My all time favorite concert, as far as them sounding live and still every bit as good as the album, was Emerson, Lake and Palmer in '73 (I believe) for their "Brain Salad Surgery" tour, in Memphis at the Colosseum. They had a quad system of a PA set up in there and the sound was AMAZING! Keith Emerson, at one point, came out playing what looked like an early guit-board (keyboard guitar) and as he was jamming on it, every once in a while when he hit a certain note, it shot like a roman candle above the crowd.
For newer picks, I had a great time and was completely in awe a couple of years ago when I got to see Trans Siberian Orchestra in Little Rock. I have a DVD of them and break it out every year before Christmas and invite someone who hasn't seen it to come watch it with me (and bring their kids if they have any).
