"She looked like a pear
But no one would eat her.
She had the appeal
Of a 5 foot muskeeter.
She smelled like toilet water
And I don't mean perfume,
And her butt was shaped like a baboon's."

There's a war on pop?

That's such a shame. Just because something's popular doesn't make it bad....of course it doesn't make it good, either!

It's rare for me to find it necessary to put up entire lyrics, but this song really speaks to me, so bear with me on this one, please.

The song is "The War Was In Color," by Carbon Leaf. Here's an excellent vid of the song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf29IIQuqYk

I see you've found a box of my things -
Infantries, tanks and smoldering airplane wings.
These old pictures are cool. Tell me some stories.
Was it like the old war movies?
Sit down son. Let me fill you in...

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
From the flash of a gun to a soldier who's done
Trust me grandson
The war was in color

From shipyard to sea, From factory to sky
From rivet to rifle, from boot camp to battle cry
I wore the mask up high on a daylight run
That held my face in its clammy hand
Crawled over coconut logs and
corpses in the coral sand...

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
From the shock of a shell to the memory of smell
If red is for Hell
The war was in color

I held the canvas bag over the railing
The dead released, with the ship still sailing,
Out of our hands and into the swallowing sea
I felt the crossfire stitching up soldiers
Into a blanket of dead, and as the night grows colder
In a window back home, a Blue
Star is traded for Gold...

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
When metal is churned. And bodies are burned
Victory earned
The War was in color

Now I lay in my grave at age 21
Long before you were born
Before I bore a son
What good did it do?
Well hopefully for you
A world without war
A life full of color...

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo never captured my skin
Once it was torn from an enemy thorn
Straight through the core
The war was in color

Where to begin? Let's start with the end
This black and white photo don't capture the skin
From the flash of a gun to a soldier who's done
Trust me grandson
The war was in color
Trust me grandson____
The war was in color

Some Rise , Some Fall , Some Climb , To get to Terrapin

Once in a while you can get shown the light , in the strangest of places if you look at it right ...

Well, I ain't always right but I've never been wrong.
Seldom turns out the way it does in a song.
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right

It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free,
There's nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream

Awoke today, felt your side of the bed;
The covers were still warm where you been layin'.
You were gone, oh gone, my heart was filled with dread;
You might not be sleeping here again.
But it's alright cause I love you, and that's not going to change.
Run me around and make me hurt again and again.
But I'll still sing you love songs, written in the letters of your name.
The rain is gonna come, oh it surely looks like rain

"There's no need for you to be worrying about all those people...
You didn't know those people anyway...."

From Bonny Dobson's "Morning Dew"

(I seem to recall Jeff Beck ,with Rod Stewart, and some other obscure band doing it back in the 60's :D )

HJ

P.S. Acoustic Earth brothers, Have you 'ol Dead Heads been doin' any jammin' lately?.

"First I cut 'er with my Barlow
Then I kinda kicked her in the side
And then I stoof there laughin' o'er her
While she bubbled up & died.

"So Judge, Judge
Good kind Judge
Send me to the 'lectric chair!"

I dunno who wrote this one, but this is the David Bromberg version of the lyric...I think it was written for an angry woman, but the words have been changed to make it perfect for me to play! heh heh heh (It never fails to rile up some over-sensitive woman in the audience, too!)
