Craig,

I dont ussually do this, but a few weeks ago you posted something that put a burr under my saddle. Im going thru one of those times when songs are just pouring out and I think I owe part of that to you. Youve inspired me without knowing it. I think Ive built up a lot of ideas and they are surfacing, and Im doing everything in my power to stop what Im doing and write the ideas down. I tend to forget stuff quickly. Cell phones are cool with the little recorders for capturing simple ideas that I can later use, plus having a pen and paper on hand anywhere I go helps. And Ive got a standing deal each week at a friends studio to record stuff.

Ive jumped outside of my regular genres into, kind of a singer song writer country rock thing that just suits me at the moment. A year ago I would have brushed this stuff aside, but when the muse hits you need to capture it someway and with all the little gadgets most of us have a round there is no reason not too.

So Thanks My Friend

I dont know if you saw in another post but Irminsul added me on facebook the other day. I hadnt seen any activity and with his running around in the desert with high powered weapons you just never know, so it was good to hear from him.

C-Ya and have a Great Weekend

Cool J! I added irminsul on facebook. I think that's how he got you. I added all the people in my email contacts who already had a facebook. That included you and he and I guess he saw you in my friend list. Cool!

John,

I'm glad to have been of service in some way, even if it was unintentional! LOL :-)

You are really talented, and you know I have nothing but respect for you as a musican AND as a performer. I am VERY happy that you are in a place you can spread your wings a little, and be your own man, musically speaking.

IRMINSUL!!!

I think of him from time to time, and always wondering what he is up to. I have a lot of respect for him, musically, and intellectually, and I have always just thought he was an interesting person as well.

Please give him my best when you speak or message again. I would appreciate that very much!

Can't wait to see and hear all the great things heading your way brother!

.

Over the years I've played with quite a few cover players and those that claim they have no original ideas I find it hard to believe. It's really good news you want to explore your original ideas. Let them pour out of your soul and push them to the limit. You only live once. I'll bet you can come up with some awesome tunes.
Irminsul has a really nice website Irminsul.biz. I searched for him on Webcrawler. He definitely is a talented, very intelligent person. Not that I agreed with him on everything but I respect him a great deal...

John - Get a digital recorder. I need to put mine back in the Jeep, brought it inside a week ago to transfer a few things to PC, haven't put it back yet. It's great for capturing those lyrics that hit you out of nowhere...usually while I'm driving is when I come up with a good idea, so I grab the recorder and let it fly. Mine was about $30 at wally world (I hate that place...) it holds something like 18 hours of recorded speech, 512MB memory. Two AAA batteries and they last a pretty long while. Last pair lasted over 6 months, occasional use.

Definitely worth what I paid for it, although it never did get a chance to record the woman a the motel I worked for screaming and cursing me, which is why I originally bought it. Wanted to record her the next time she threatened to kill me...

Actually, I need to listen to the partial lyrics I recorded and see what I can add, maybe even finish one...Lyrics are really my downfall, I've never been able to think up more than a line or two then I go blank. Two weeks later I might have a full verse put together...it's extremely frustrating, the music is there, just no words to go with it.
Last Train was a very surprising exception, I finished it lyrics and all in about 30 minutes. Totally amazed me, I've never even finished a full verse in a day much less an entire song. But there it was, pretty much just jumped out at me...an hour later I was playing it for a friend and he loved it, so I thought it just might be a keeper...

OK I'll stop rambling and shut up. :D

You can also use digital cameras. Most cameras these days record video with audio. Some even record just audio.

I need more hours in the day...this biz of working on new stuff around this child is more challenging than I expected...& when the wife finally gets home & wants some attention, all I wanna do is hide & work or sit here o/l...grr...makes for unfun times, for sure, & I'm trying to be a better person than the one I feel like being...still, it sure would be nice to be able to do whatever the hell I want to for a few hours, cuz I just MIGHT get something done!

I got that "Third-Rate Romance"song almost right. It's just quirky enough, lyrically. to keep my attention, & now I'm getting little flashes of something new again. Need to WORK...

Ain't it the coolest when you channel those energies & get someting really good written? That, for me, is the absolute bestest part of music. Playing it & having it well-received comes a close 2nd, though.
