Last night I didnt have my kids cause I have the floor torn out of my house. My father has a condo at an area lake and said come on up and spend the night. I took a guitar and amp. After my dad and I ate I went down to this little bar I know of that has a sort of open mic jam. I wound up playing til 12. Had a great time. In fact theyve asked me about possibly doing a weekly thing. Its kind of an off night for me and playing inprov on the go is a challenge especially with people staring at you.

Just sharing to maybe inspire some other folks to get out and find some music to get involved with.

Just do it!

I dont know. I actually got booked to play guitar at a jam they have up there. The woman is paying me to show up, and its enough that I couldnt say no, so we shall see.

Its not really an open band thing. Just a solo person playing or duos. I was up there the 4th of July and sat in with a woman who was really good. She covered all sorts of musical terrain. She had Keys, Guitar and for some things we used the drum machine, made for some interesting music. She came in late last night and then called me this morning and wants to set up some things, maybe one or two a month. The monday thing thou, I dont have kids that night. I would probably be playing somewhere with someone anyway, why not get paid to do it and just do it on a regular basis for awhile. I have a place to stay and they shut down at 12 so its not like some of those 2am deals I do. I dont think it will interfer with my other musical endeavers. Ive been asked in some other places to do some open mic nights, and I actually did at one point but it got old to me. Lots of the people were drunk and really had no business playing in the first place, wow I guess that was negative wasnt it.

I mean reading about Les Paul, and Im not referring that Im Les Paul by any means, but up until recently he played every monday at some bar in Manhatten. It had bvecome a huge thing every week. He would play requests and all sorts of stuff. I think from a player standpoint it might do me some good.

I just feel I should play as much as possible and lately in as many different enviroments as I can, but I love the pressure of having to nail my parts and entertain a live audience.

Sounds like fun to me too.

Well I got the call, I start playing next monday night. And get this its 7-11, man how cool is that? I thought we would do 8-12. But getting finiched at 11 will be cool.

We will be playing whatever we can come up with, no practice just go in and wing it. I love it.

Im hoping we can develop a crowd cause there is nothing else going on on monday nights. Could develop into a cool deal and I will get a good night of playing in. I will let you all know how it goes as I go along.

yeah it's "break a leg" as good luck can be bad luck.

I always tell musicians to "break a string."

"Break a leg" sounds way to much like some gay actors blessing to be relevent when talking to a musician I actually like.

I believe it originated with stage actors.
Perhaps John Wilks Booth took it too literal.
I have often wondered if he would have better alluded the Fed had he not broken his leg in his last jump to stage in Ford's Theater.

I believe that to be accurate enough Chip.
And as stated before, the seems to be some superstition amoungst stage and screen actors in the wishing of luck.
Though not being the artsy type or superstitious, it all escapes me.

A funny note :
While investigating a local festival that had advertised for bands we of course applied for more information.
In recieving their requirements we note that they stated that "Because this is an ART festival, no loud distorted guitar bands would be allowed.
So now I know that the playing of a loud distorted guitar is not an art form.

Luckly our bassest whom is quite the polite gent, was the one whom responded to this idiocy.
