Here's a tune that's a hair dif than what I've posted so far... it's on my profile... I have learned so much from feedback allready... please have a listen and post any comments you have... good or bad. I welcome it. Be as specific as possible. Thank you so much in advance... and let me know if I can return the fav.

It reminds me of Yani. :-) Great recording quality. The only negative in my opinion would be that it seemed to either be too repetative or too long. But, as it isn't my personal taste in music I could be completely wrong there. But all around good job.

ok gave one tune a listen on both sites and another as well. singing voice kinda reminds me of weezer. I hear some pitchy spots like you said... I would say they have more to do with breathing than ear IMO, as you demonstrate that you can hit the note but it wavers.
the best thing going for ya on these is the bass IMO. don't touch that at all, i don't care what anyone says. in fact I'd turn up the bass(freq) on the bass... somewhere around 125hz.
some rythm issues but I think learning to work with software/metronomes will cure that. I really hear potential in yer voice. I wouldn't hold those notes so long IMO. I would say the rythm of the singing could improve by practicing the words over and over, but alltogether not bad.

Actually...now I know this is going to sound like an excuse...but it really is true. The software I use is supposed to be run on a computer with 1GHZ dual processor. Mine is a iMac G3 400Mhz. So it causes an extreme latency issue. So when I am trying to sing to the guitar track my voice echoes back a little bit after I sing it...really throws me off. lol Hopefully I can get a newer computer to solve the latency issue. Although I am sure with time I will get better at my timing...but if you listen you will notice the bass is off some too....and if you heard the guitar to the click track you would notice the guitar is off. :-)

As far as the bass frequency I agree with you completely. But, I have yet to figure out the EQ on the software I use. (Cubase LE) I am familiar with your basic amp EQs which are just High, high-mid, low-mid, Low. But on this software each of this setting has another 3 settings. I have been trying to figure it out. :-) Hopefully I can fix it.

I will consider not holding the notes so long...but it sort of my thing...and I am not sure I want to change it or not. Hopefully I can fix my pitch issues, but when I listen to my voice it just doesn't sound ascetically pleasing. And I don't think it is just pitch....so hopefully I will either get over it or learn what the issue is.

Thanks for listening and for your feedback.

"Actually...now I know this is going to sound like an excuse...but it really is true. The software I use is supposed to be run on a computer with 1GHZ dual processor. Mine is a iMac G3 400Mhz. "I will consider not holding the notes so long...but it sort of my thing...and I am not sure I want to change it or not." -I won't be the least bit offended if you dont' take my advice... perhaps you could make it work that way if you did a harmony to yourself.

"Hopefully I can fix my pitch issues, but when I listen to my voice it just doesn't sound ascetically pleasing. " -your singin in that higher register but I think it would be pleasing with some backups, some unison tracks, and more pitch control. Not everybody sounds like michael bolton.

"Thanks for listening and for your feedback." -my pleasure. cheers

Although...speaking of vocal sounds....I am a huge fan of The Violent Femmes....and there is noting ascetically pleasing about his voice. lol But I love it anyway. And of course the often mentioned Bob Dylan. But, when you say the higher registers you mean higher pitch? Because I thought I was fairly lower...at least when I try to sing along with some of the bands I like I can't hit as high of notes as they do. But, you think I sing high, is that what you are saying?

I can not do harmony...hopefully I could learn how...I have been told the whole 3 & 5 thing and whatever...lol but I just can't do it. I don't have that ability yet. :-) Of course if you did look at my profile you would notice that I am looking for a vocalist...I don't want to be singing, I want to focus all of my energy on the bass. Like you couldn't tell. lol

Nice stuff Mr Mike, that was fun. I particularly enjoyed the guitar, very nice phrasing, though I'm not a huge fan of the tone. I found it "harsh" (for lack of a better word) in places.

again I am no voc instructor, but I meant higher part of the throat. takes a long time to fig out where it's comin from...
vfemes were from milwaukee! one one one for my heartacke and two two ...
to learn harmony, know yer scales. play fifth fret on e string and seventh on a string, then try to make yer voice do the sound from the a string while bass does the e string sound. then move to next note in a penta tonic scale and do the sm(8th fret e string to 5th fret d string). then 5th fret a string to 7th fret d string, etc. worked for me?!? as a harmonizing bass player you will be in demand.

Thanks for the info. :-)

Yes the Femmes were from Milwaukee...but if you watch much tv you will have noticed that their song has been on the latest Burger King commercial...plus many more...and when Psych was first being advertised they were using their song for that show too. They are one of the biggest unkown bands of all time I think. lol But, they are known for their bass above all else. ;-)

The vocals on Shithouse sound like Elvis meets Jim Morrison imo I liked the guitar sound.

The recording on both songs sound good although for my taste the drums are a little hot.

Nice ideas. The fretless on the second tune is effective.

Did you use any compression on that acoustic?

Cheers,
Matt

okra, thanks for the compliment. it means a lot to me. the gtr tone was my setup at 11 with an sm57 about 4" away from the cone so I could get that feedback... I really would have to agree that I sacrifice the tone a bit but it was the only way I could get the thing to feedback like that in my apartment!!!! But I will take that into advicement... perhaps compress it a bit... mix the keyboard in a lil better too.

clint - i hear ya clucken big chicken.

zito you rock. I am beside myself to hear your comments cause I know you are damn good. thank you it means a lot to me. you are the second person that said elvis and somebody else. the other person said elvis and cash... which I'm takin as a compliment. I know I am nowhere near as good but I try. the harmony is more my natural voice.the drums are being done by a real drummer over on collab so... I should have that one handled, but you are right on... I agree completely assuming by hot you mean busy... or do you mean mix? thanks for the fretless compliment... they are damn hard to play in tune and I'm sure I am off at points but not bad for an amatuer. no, no compression on the acoustic... I will take that into consideration tho. I think the song was done too slow cause it's a really hard gtr part but hearing it slow just makes it soso.
clint: just means 'I hear ya'... I'm just a hair extravagent!
