It's amazing how many Canadiens have to come her for medical procedures that are not covered. Cash only please. What do you mean you were to old to be taken care of?We don't do that here.

Wait til the Canadiens start shelling out the bucks for research and developement, and cash reserves to protect against frivolus lawsuits stemming from that R & D. That 150 a month doesnt cut it.
Our system is not Broken at all. Lets get over it and move onto the real national crises facing us,,,,Energy. The world economy can not sustain itself,at $150 a barrel for crude oil. We have tremendous talent and tremendous reserves of coal, oil,nuclear tech, and green power rescources. Instead our govt is getting us to focus something that is not broken.
We are getting sold out and most don't even realise it.

Damn Glen, Ihate to burst your bubble but the system is broken.
The only way to fix it is to make the investors, the Board of Directors and Administrations Responsable for the care they are not providing.
Every morning before I go on the floor, I pray in earnest that the care I am unable to provide due to being so understaffed and the increasing comorbidity of our patients. (these people have multiple diagnosis, many have one foot in the grave and we are a REHAB) The Nurse supervisors continually push us to do more and more medicare related documentation.
When we go to them in private to complain that we cannot even complete the hands on care needed in 9-10 hours much less spend 30 minutes on the computer for each patient (typically 6 or 7 of them per nurse) they are almost in tears when they tell us more staff cuts are comming.
Your life is in danger in Americas hospitals, You would sh*t your pants if I listed all the potentially fatal mistakes I catch and reverse in a months time.

Sans,you sound more and more like a true american,really good at what you do and really concerned.You are the kind of person that allways tries to do better than is possible,no matter what the odds.My brother is a nurse at the local V.A.terminal section.He takes care of the guy's who helped protect us and keep us to be the nation we are today,he deals with heroes gone past.The stories of denied care would turn your head.Lets say a prayer for ALL our vets. This is govt health care in action. We can't cant even take care of our heroes,why would I trust our govt to take care of me?
You are so absolutely correct about hospitals putting someone with your American work ethics into jeopardy. Investors,administration,incompetnt doctors,,, Let me say ,you are the only line of defense patients have.If our govt takes it over , you won't have way to protect people the way you do now.
If I were broke, and I ended up at your hospital, all I could do is pray and hope some one like you was around,,,,If I were rich I would not be at a poorly run hospital like the one you describe,,and I would certainly hire a top nurse advocate.
