Has anyone had their in-ear monitors customized before?

I'm looking at getting a pair of SCL3's from Shure and having Sensaphonics customize them. http://www.sensaphonics.com/prod_shure_sleeve.html

I'm wondering if anyone has had this done? If so, what did it cost you? How do you like them? Would you do it again? What did you use for a base ear monitor?

I have the Shure SCL2's right now. They don't make a custom fit for those anymore. I don't like them much because I can't find an ear sleeve that fits very well. I seem to have very small ear passages so I can't get the earpiece to stay in my ear even with the smallest sleeves on them... The ear piece keeps coming loose and I get too much ambient noise.

Didnt your mother ever tell you not to stick anything smaller than your elbow into your ear?

But seriously, be carefull with headphones and in ear audio. They can be much more damaging to your hearing than ambient sound.

I've heard from ppl that using these things improved their vocals by 20+% right off the bat. I'd be very interested in trying them out in our band, if I ever find that elusive guitarist...

I don't know what Sensaphonics charges, but it isn't something that you can do online. I looked into having my IEM custom fitted by an audiologist, (the only safe, reliable way for custom inserts), and the cost was several hundred dollars for just one pair of inserts......I find that the good off-the-shelf inserts, (Phillips, and Shure both make good flexible inserts in several sizes), are quite comfortable, and a whole lot less expensive. The medical quality ones are also not covered by insurance, unless you wear a hearing aid.
