I was trying to get there early to get a chance to chat before you started, Paul. Unfortunately, my grandson had other plans (like having a huge diaper malfunction combined with the previous day's mexican meal - EW!), which put me back a lot in my preparations. (Yeah, it really WAS that bad! Had to do the whole entire bath thing & clothes change & omg it was EVERYWHERE! NOW I remember why I only had one kid!)

Then, of course, my wife. having come straight from work, had to rush off to get a meal before going into a diabetic shock or something due to low blood sugar, as she hadn't gotten to eat since around 1 PM at her job, so I didn't get a chance to chat with you after, either. (She does really have type II diabetes, so I hafta bow to those needs when they come up.)

Anyway, I'm really glad I got the chance to meet you & see your act, Paul. For the record, whoever told you that you were too loud was way off, imo. I walked around the store, listening, for a cpl minutes, & while you could be heard, you were far quieter than their usual piped in stuff, outside of the snack bar area. You had a very good mix throughout the store, btw. (I'll bet it was the barrista that told you that, right?) Loved the heelies thing, man! Yep, you have a very good act. Only suggestion I could make would be to get a more accessible 2nd trigger for your loops recorder, if possible, for when you're doing the drums, cuz it looks like a logistical nightmare when you have to spin & hit the stomp button & keep time.

Really good solo act, for sure, Paul! My friend & family liked it a bunch. I missed the lil green guitar, though!

There were lots of moments in your performance that stood out with me. I just wish I was more familiar with your material to remember them in context & make intelligent comments on particular songs. I love that you were all over the genre map, man! I never knew from what direction you would come at me next! 50's? 90's? comic rap? Beautiful, Paul!

Thanks so much for coming philby. :D I know how those family duties go. Especially the diaper explosions! I should probably get that dedicated drum looper closer to the drums. 2 employees said I was too loud. It was irritating to me that they never said anything during. Or even at all until I asked. I got a lot of positive feedback from people I didn't know. I am glad I played there.

I have a hard time believing it was too loud. At my house I thought the drum mix was too quiet. What do I know, I like loud music.

Yeah I do play quieter usually. My drums are a little low in the mix usually. I need to make that adjustment. I do/did get adrenalized by some crowd response or just a crowd . I did turn it up a bit.

Aw, hell, Paul! I'd be willing to bet that that was the very 1st time that place had ever had any kind of drum in it at all! The drums were much louder live than when they were looped, but only lasted a measure, so that prolly wasn't it, but they were most likely taken aback with all the rock you did, & would have been, no matter the volume level! I know some of the acts that have been there before, & they don't come close to you in variety or overall entertainment quality, but I can see how they would be surprized by you, for sure!

Your voice is also a huge presence, man, & while that's great, it can be pretty loud, even when you back off the mic like you do so tastefully.

I mean, it IS a bookstore. They prolly are going for that "almost library" feel, & you definitely don't fit that, man!

Gimme some possible dates, & let me try to get you a cpl jobs booked, but gimme some time to do it, next time! I can think of some places for you to play around here, & yeah, some of them are bars that don't allow smoking, if that could work for you. There are places in Harper's Ferry, here in Hedgesville, Berkeley Springs, all over, man.

Restaurants maybe, but not a dedicated bar. I know I'm a pain. If you do some checking around I'll come back. It's a short enough drive that I'd do it. Those young guys I talked to are working on getting me in at a Penn state satellite gig. Maybe I can coordinate a gig there and where you suggest. thanks bro!
