Love lyrics, perhaps even more so than music itself. Always interested in finding new influences... so show me who to listen to next. What would qualify as "good lyrics" to you?

Here is one that would be among my top 100...

"I've grown up here now
All of my life
But I dreamed
Someday I'd go
Where blue eyed girls
And red guitars and
Naked rivers flow

I'm not all I thought I'd be
I always stayed around
I've been as far as Mercy and Grand
Frozen to the ground
I can't stay here and I'm scared to leave
(Just kiss me once and then)
I'll go to hell
I might as well
Be whistlin' down the wind

The bus at the corner
The clock's on the wall
Broken windmill
There's no wind at all
I've yelled and I cursed
If i stay here I'll rust
I'm stuck like a shipwreck
Out here in the dust

Sky is red
And there world's on fire
And the corn is taller than me
The dog is tied
To a wagon of rain
And the road is as wet as the sea
And sometimes the music from a dance
Will carry across the plains
And the places that I'm dreaming of
Do they dream only of me?
There are places where they never sleep
And the circus never ends
So I will take the Marley Bone Coach
And whistle down the wind" -Tom Waitts

Ok, here is me being serious! My favorite lyrics right now is from Anyway sang/written by Martina McBride (also one of my fav artists)
You can spend your whole life building something from nothing
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach and you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

Chorus:
God is great, but sometimes life ain?t good
And when I pray it doesn?t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway, I do it anyway

This world?s gone crazy and it?s hard to believe that tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart, for all the right reasons, and in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love ?em anyway

Repeat Chorus

You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in that tomorrow they?ll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway, sing it anyway

I sing, I dream, I love, anyway,

I don't know actually which ones I could say are the greatest lyrics of all time for me..... But here's one that sticks with me off the top of my head, because mine's been drug around a few times :? !

Baby you come knockin on my front door
same ol' line u used to use before
Can't sit still, well what am I supposed to do?
I didn't know what I was getting into

So you had a little trouble in town
Now you're keepin some demons down
Stop draggin my
Stop draggin my
Stop draggin my heart around

It's hard to think about what u wanted
it's hard to think about what u lost
This doesn't have to be the big catch either
this doesn't have to be anything at all

(I know you really want to tell me goodbye
I know you really want to be your own girl)

Baby you could never look me in the eyes
now you buckle with the weight of the world
Stop draggin my, stop draggin my
Stop draggin my heart around

People runnin round loose with their words
Ain't got nothin better to do
than makin meat out of some bright eyed kid
you need someone lookin after you

(I know you really want to tell me goodbye
I know you really want to be your own girl)

Baby you could never look me in the eyes
now you buckle with the weight of the world
Stop draggin my, stop draggin my
Stop draggin my heart around

William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ring finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gath'rin'.
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

William Zanzinger, who at twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland,
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering, and his tongue it was snarling,
In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

Hattie Carroll was a maid of the kitchen.
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didn't even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on a whole other level,
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room,
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle.
And she never done nothing to William Zanzinger.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain't the time for your tears.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom,
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'.
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished,
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance,
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence.
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears.
-Bob Dylan

Here's my favorite angry chic tune!!

I want you to know
that I'm happy for you
I wish nothing but
the best for you both

An older version of me
Is she perverted like me
would she go down on you in a theater?
Does she speak eloquently
and would she have your baby?
I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

cuz the love that ya gave
that we made
was unable to make it enough for you to be open wide
No
and everytime you speak her name
does she know how you told me hold me
until you died...til you died
But you're still alive

and I'm here
to remind you
of the mess you left when you went away
it's not fair to deny me
of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You..You... You Oughtta know

U seem very well
things look peaceful
well I'm not quite as well
and I thought u should know
did u forget about me
Mr Duplicity
I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner
it was a slap in the face
how quickly I was replaced
and are you thinkin of me when you f*ck her

cuz the love that ya gave
that we made
was unable to make it enough for you to be open wide
No
and everytime you speak her name
does she know how you told me hold me
until you died...til you died
But you're still alive

and I'm here
to remind you
of the mess you left when you went away
it's not fair to deny me
of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You..You... You Oughtta know

Cuz the joke that you laid in the bed that was me
and I'm not gonna fade as soon as you close your eyes
and you know it
and every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back
I hope ya feel it, aw can ya feel it?

Well I'm here
to remind you
of the mess you left when you went away
it's not fair to deny me
of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You..You... You Oughtta know

Well I'm here
to remind you
of the mess you left when you went away
it's not fair to deny me
of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You..You... You Oughtta know
