I'VE been back and forth ,listening.
The song I posted today is about half of what it really is.
When I compare my wave files against MP3 128 kps, so much is lost it blows my mind.
WORSE I don't think wave files are that great.

When I compare files all the little mistakes that make us human are gone.
Covered up by MP3. WORSE,, Also gone are all the little bits that make a recording special.

I know what ya mean. When you compress a wav file to 1/10th of it's size, you're going to lose something. I tried explaining that a few years ago to my son and he was like, "Oh, no, mp3 technology has come a long way. Now there's NO difference between them and a wav file." I laughed when a couple of years ago he called me and said, "Dad, you were right." He had been listening to just mp3's for so long, and then he saw a CD by one of his favorite bands and it had a couple of songs on it that he didn't have, so he bought it. While listening to it on the way home, he heard what a big difference there was. But he still listens to the mp3's because they're handier as you can put so many more onto a CD. At least he knows there IS a difference now though.

Oh, and I can hardly stand listening to the radio now. In the old days of vinyl, they compressed the music so it would fit the airwaves and it was tolerable. Same thing with CD's. But now, all the stations get the music in mp3 format and then compress it again and to me it sounds awful. I've heard that they don't compress music for radio play in England. Any truth to that, cousins across the pond?

RAT I' M just frustrated right now. My gig is BEING ON stage. I DON'T LIKE RECORDING . I LOVE LIVE SOUND, MP3 WILL NEVER TOUCH A GOOD BASS REFLEX CAB. You Know.

Recording is a save it share it medium thats about it.
Nothing beats a live performance.
A live performance with it neuances and even little mistake beats a perfect recording any day in my book.

Perhaps the ol internet aint as advanced as it thinks it is.
I am no electrowhizbang, but WTF, if internet is all that, why the limitations?

well sans I'm not totally sure as I'm not a computer wizz, but there is only so much we can do with the technology that 'everyman' has its like records vs audio tape, cept my mp3 player records wave files.....so I guess, mp3's are nice cuz you don't have to click download....

MP3 is a lie just as cassettes, then CD's. The difference between the analog and digital studio work I've done is water & ice.

Analog/Vinyl is still King!

Imagine analog as a straight smooth diagonal line. Now imagine digital as stair steps, 4 bit = four steps, 8 bit = 8 steps and so on. The more bits, the smoother the line, but it will never be as smooth as analog, Some day, with advances in technology, it may pass the point of detection by the human ear, but it hasn't yet.

I've done side by side comparisons of vinyl and CDs and CDs of course sound cleaner but lack the warmth of a record. But thank god for the newer technolgies, they allow more people than ever to access music anywhere.

I've probably posted this before, but mp3 is only half the problem.

I just put this up, because between the point I switched this from wave to MP3
All the little squeaks and twirks and blubs that made that simple recording, what it was meant to be, dissapeared
I heard a " new vinyl" recording a month ago, recorded analog, mastered,analog,[untill you've done that you don't realize the work involved]

Played on a very good turntable, and sound system ,it was very close to being LIVE............MP3 WHAT A LIE!!!!!!!!
